Welcome to the April devlog. Over the past month, we’ve been focused on building the winter map, developing new chapters, and refining level design.

As promised, today we’re taking a closer look at the new weather features.

Winter Map Features

When winter arrives, so does snow.

In Chapters 10 and 11, you’ll encounter new weather mechanics, including snowdrifts, icy roads, and blizzards. Let's take a closer look at the first two.

On rainy days, puddles would appear on random rows each turn. Snow works similarly, but with a twist.

  • Snowdrifts behave like puddles

    • Adventurers need +1 movement point to pass through

  • Icy roads speed things up

    • No extra movement points needed to cross

    • Adventurers effectively move one extra space

Each turn, the system randomly spawns either snowdrifts or icy roads across different rows, and these effects will never appear on adjacent rows.

New Adventurers

We’re continuing to expand the roster with more expert and novice adventurers.

Building the Final Chapters

We are now deep into developing the final chapters of Dungeon Inn. We hope to bring a natural conclusion to:

  • The rivalry between adventurers

  • Sara’s journey running the inn

  • Her relationships with characters like Anise, Chever, and others

Until now, chapters were built in sequence from beginning to end. However, as the story approaches its conclusion, we’ve shifted to working in reverse, starting from Chapter 12.

We want to avoid a forced or sudden ending, and this change helps us ensure everything ties together properly.

What’s Next

In May, we’ll be focusing heavily on dialogue.

Once that’s complete, we’ll move on to refining the level designs for Chapters 10 to 12, making them smoother and more engaging.

Dev Life Update

We’ve started growing basil in the office.

Last year, we tried growing rocket outdoors, but ended up feeding caterpillars instead of ourselves. Watching them turn into butterflies was lovely, but we were hoping to eat the leaves too...

This time, we’re growing basil indoors. Hopefully, this batch makes it to the kitchen.
