Heyo drywall munchers! This is Jax, studio head over at Peripheral Playbox. It’s been a minute since we’ve revealed Drywall Eating Simulator back in June (and thank you again to everyone who wishlisted and followed us!)
Progress is finally starting to snowball for Drywall, enough so we decided to start doing dev logs to talk about how things are going and what our creative process is. We haven’t decided on how often to do this, so if you’re liking these and want to see more, please tell us in the comments, on our BlueSky, or our developer Discord!
(Note that all images are WIPs, and might be different in the final game.)
Anyway, here are some questions I pretended people asked me:
Who the hell are you guys?
Please don’t swear in your questions. 🙁
WHO ARE YOU GUYS!
Loud, but ok.
We’re a new studio made up of indie game veterans trying to build a sustainable games studio. We decided to debut with Drywall because we wanted a smallish project that would help us find our voice, and get us through the process of shipping a game with this team and structure. Wish us luck, we're trying our best. 🥲
What is Drywall Eating Simulator?
It's… in the name, but really…
Drywall is a short narrative adventure game working through a lot of feelings that we have about the world that we live in. Each of the 4 levels have you doing straightforward things like restocking store shelves, or researching slides for the Big Presentation. How hard could any of that be in a well adjusted society?
What ELSE CAN YOU TELL US
Please stop shouting! Why are you shouting!
Here’s some random facts for you animals:
We’re aiming for a short experience. (1-2 hours?)
The game will have 4 levels, Apartments, Hardware Store, Office, and Art Gala.
You have a phone that is connected to the internet.
You can pick items up and put them down.
What’s da big plans after launch?
Everything kinda hinges on how well the game does! We have drawn up concepts for possible post-launch DLC, and we'll keep an eye on if there's any asks from the community. But ultimately we’ll move onto our next game a little bit after release! We have a lot of plans and games that we want to get out into the world, Drywall is just us getting started. 😄
Is doing this kind of jokey-answer thing a bit tryhard?
Maybe? It helped me get through writing this log at least.
Hopefully you guys got something out of this? Next log we'll go over the technical and creative aspects of how we develop a level out.
But until next time keep bashing your head against walls!
