changedWeapon sounds will no longer fail to playWeapon sounds should now play under all circumstances. Previously, in bandwidth-limited situations, with low rate settings or with low-end server hardware, weapon sounds didn't get transmitted to all clients. For the longest time, I couldn't reproduce this because I have high rate settings, a fairly good internet connection and I was playing on less than full servers. Thankfully, Dementei found some people who not only could reproduce the issue but also had the knowledge to address it.
changedWeapon sounds will no longer fail to playtl;dr: Weapon sounds work now \o/ (If you still don't hear weapon sounds, make sure you're playing on an updated server)
addedWhat now?The official servers have been updated or will be updated once they have drained of players. All other server owners have been notified about this update and will probably update their servers to the new version very soon.
addedWhat now?The new and old versions are forwards- and backwards-compatible with one another, so you can still play on unupdated servers, but you will not hear *any* weapon sounds on unupdated servers. Client updates are optional (but will happen automatically through Steam anyway).
addedWhat now?Server owners will most likely need to update manually (but all players can still connect). You will be able to find both old and new servers with both the in-game and Steam server browser. Players can tell whether a server is updated by using the "da_version" command and verifying that the server and client have the same version (comparing the first 4 digits is enough in this case).

1.3.2.1 offblast!

Hello everyone,

this time, there's just one change, but this one has probably been annoying most of you a lot.

The full changelog can, as always, be seen at: https://github.com/BSVino/DoubleAction/blob/develop/CHANGELOG.md

Highlights

Weapon sounds will no longer fail to play

Weapon sounds should now play under all circumstances. Previously, in bandwidth-limited situations, with low rate settings or with low-end server hardware, weapon sounds didn't get transmitted to all clients. For the longest time, I couldn't reproduce this because I have high rate settings, a fairly good internet connection and I was playing on less than full servers. Thankfully, Dementei found some people who not only could reproduce the issue but also had the knowledge to address it.

tl;dr: Weapon sounds work now \o/ (If you still don't hear weapon sounds, make sure you're playing on an updated server)

Thanks

  • Valkyrie for the initial patch and for patiently debugging through this with me

  • Joshua Ashton for helping with the initial patch

  • Dementei and Stray Chet for, in one way or another, for making the connection

What now?

The official servers have been updated or will be updated once they have drained of players. All other server owners have been notified about this update and will probably update their servers to the new version very soon.

The new and old versions are forwards- and backwards-compatible with one another, so you can still play on unupdated servers, but you will not hear *any* weapon sounds on unupdated servers. Client updates are optional (but will happen automatically through Steam anyway).

Server owners will most likely need to update manually (but all players can still connect). You will be able to find both old and new servers with both the in-game and Steam server browser. Players can tell whether a server is updated by using the "da_version" command and verifying that the server and client have the same version (comparing the first 4 digits is enough in this case).

Servers updated so far:

  • SimRai

  • Superfall Boogaloo!

  • dr.N0s

  • [ju:nien]

  • karn's

  • Knalltüten

  • Minced Meat Mans

  • OurDare

  • RIVINS

  • Rudeflesh

Servers not updated:

  • EMR (notified)

  • Jim's (no contact info)

  • Tuijnenburg (notified)

  • Xerneas (notified)

This time, due to the servers being compatible, I won't be able to easily verify which servers have updated, so I can't keep the list as up-to-date as the last time.
