Repeated intro
Hello and welcome to the second Dev Update for Don't Stare, our indie platformer that follows the adventures of an introvert on a quest for peace and tranquility, while on the run from loud-mouthed but good natured extroverts!
What changed
- Gameplay
- Balance
It is the height of summer and we are sweating buckets! Not on account of the weather, but rather because of the hot updates that we have released into the game.
Here is what we have been working on for the past scorching month!
Room customization feature
One of the key traits of introverts is their creativity. One of the main conduits for this creativity in Don't Stare will be our room customization feature which will allow you to design, furnish and decorate your very own fortress of solitude, away from the hustle and the bustle of the outside world.
Items can be collected through gameplay and are separated by room set. Each item is interchangeable and you can mix and match to find the perfect tapestry of your seclusion. We are now up to 10 different room sets, some of which you may have noticed if you follow us on social media!
On the programming side, the collection and decoration features themselves are done, currently being tested. Good things come to those who wait, and we literally cannot wait to see our players unleash their inner interior designer!
New extrovert characters
The roster of extrovert characters that want to talk your ear off is expanding and we are very excited that the Bois are finally in the game! This gym-bro trio might seem intimidating at a first glance, but when benching their friend, they can actually function as a platform, allowing the player to jump even higher and reach places normally out of their reach.
There are four other extrovert characters that we are currently working on, which we may reveal in the near future.
Follow us on social media to be among the first to find out!
Parkour System
Our introverted main character is athletic as they come, using their high-powered legs to leap out of the way of incoming smalltalk. But did you know that not all jumping schemes are created equal. We are very happy to have reached the milestone of marking our parkour system as complete this past month.
What is the parkour system? It is an optional movement mechanic that allows you to use parkour items in the world to maneuver faster! It allows you to run up walls, bounce off objects, and balance-run along railings and other such objects.
No level requires Parkour to finish it, and Parkour routes are usually more dangerous than the normal route, but it'll let you move through the level faster.
Other additions and improvements:
We have added several level hazards and objects, like gusts of wind that move your character, a hiding feature that lets you avoid extroverts, and more!
We are currently working on implementing cut scenes and cinematics.
Talking animations for the main character's friends are ready.
That is it for this dev update. Thank you for reading and do not forget to wishlist if you have not already!
