fixedHi guys! We have gotten a plethora of new players with the Steam Summer Sale this year, and with this some bug reports. We just went in and fixed a few things with this patch and will likely push out a couple more over the span of this week.
addedShould we add little tutorial cards throughout the game? Originally, because I wanted the game to play and feel like games from my childhood, these "tutorials" were mostly intentionally put in text, to influence exploration.
addedThus I have been considered adding some kind of simple tutorial: For example, after you first battle, maybe a little 2-3 page tutorial window thing pops up explaining battles slightly more, teaching players about the shiny mechanic in this game, and tells you how to capture monsters before letting you walk again.
addedAnyway, let me know what you guys think! I didn't plan on updating Dokimon anymore but, with such a high volume of new players as of recent, and the assumingly high volumes of new players that would come with any new games releases in this series, I feel like a tutorial and possibly a couple other small improvements could go a long way.
addedIf you've been enjoying the game or happy with the maintannence on it I'd really appreciate it if you leave a review! I do my best to update the game in between working on the sequel and my other responsibilities to ensure for the best possible experience for all my players. You can review the game from the main Steam page if you want: Dokimon Quest p.s. the game's new DLC that just released last month is still on sale! It's currently 20% off, and adds a lot of new fun into the game including the wrapping up of some story bits. You can pick it up here: Dokimon The Great Fairy Island

Thankfully there hasn't been anything major, so we're just patching small things. If you find anything that feels weird or gets you stuck, please report it here or on our Discord and I will fix it or try to improve it if possible.
Now to the Question...
Should we add little tutorial cards throughout the game? Originally, because I wanted the game to play and feel like games from my childhood, these "tutorials" were mostly intentionally put in text, to influence exploration.
Meaning, game systems, secrets, tips, and tricks are found on signposts, by talking to NPCs, and just playing and exploring the game as you would.
However, because this type of system is outdated by modern day standards, a high number of players get lost, end up with unanswered questions, and have a poor experience. This is especially the case for people that haven't played a game like this before, or, didn't grow up with GB, GBC, GBA era games.
Thus I have been considered adding some kind of simple tutorial: For example, after you first battle, maybe a little 2-3 page tutorial window thing pops up explaining battles slightly more, teaching players about the shiny mechanic in this game, and tells you how to capture monsters before letting you walk again.
I for one absolutely hate tutorials, as they are almost always non-skippable, however I think we could get away with just a few instances of this in Dokimon, and keep them rather short so that the annoyances of viewing them is much less than not having them and never knowing...
Anyway, let me know what you guys think! I didn't plan on updating Dokimon anymore but, with such a high volume of new players as of recent, and the assumingly high volumes of new players that would come with any new games releases in this series, I feel like a tutorial and possibly a couple other small improvements could go a long way.
