Dice A Million changes
Another month, another diceletter!
It's been two months since the release of Dice A Million, and just like last time, here are a couple of updates on what I've been doing!
WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING
April has been a lot less busy than March, of course, the game's already in a pretty good state so I took a very much needed break from development and went for a vacation until this last week. Expect another bugfix and small balance patch this week :)
That being said, I've been working on a lot of Dice A Million things behind the curtains! I've been mostly managing the stuff needed to make the console ports since I want those out asap, but sadly I still don't have much news on them. There's a lot of bussiness work relating to console ports that needs to be done before even actually making the ports, and it just makes me wanna close myself inside a cabin and roll dice til the end of times...
(Update: I wrote this a couple of days ago and just today I received some very good news towards about the console ports, the process is going forward! I'll"most likely"have good news next month)
However... I recently have been able to make a lot of progress towards something else...
DICE A MILLION ON MOBILE
That's right!! Dice A Million is coming to mobile, and very soon in fact!! I originally wanted to release on consoles first, but I didn't know it was gonna be that slow of a process, and since mobile is a lot quicker to set up, it will most likely be releasing there first!
The game's already running perfectly fine on Android, with all of its features like saving/loading and touch controls. There's still a bit of work needed to be done, mostly adapting some small UIs to better fit a mobile screen, but once that's looking good, I'll be able to ship it!
Adapting a game like this to touch controls it's been quite tricky, as there are a lot of differences from having a mouse. Like, being able to see dice descriptions before selecting them, being able to select dice fast and smooth, being able to view the info and area menu, and many etcs.
That being said, everything will be largely the exact same, except for UI changes and the CRT filter being turned off by default, for performance reasons (Even tho you'll be able to turn it on in settings)
Steam post image Still work in progress, some pointless settings like fullscreen have been removed too
I have no experience publishing anything neither on the Play Store or the App Store, so I don't know how much time it will be for them to review the game (especially looking at Apple), so even though my goal right now is to release simultaneously both on Android and iOS, the latter may come later if it delays the release too much, not sure yet. I'll keep you guys updated on this :)
Follow me on twitter or bluesky to be up to date since I won't be posting much about this here (apart from monthly diceletters), since this is for Steam PC news.
CONTENT UPDATES
As I mentioned on the latest Diceletter, I do have plans for the next Dice A Million content update, but I won't start actively working on it until the game is released on every platform, and that includes mobile and consoles of course. However, I made some tiny progress on further designing the new ending, some new dice and a revamp to a current existing mechanic which I don't 100% really like at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm super happy with the state the game released in, but there's one major mechanic I feel like could have been done a bit better, so expect a pretty notable change whenever the time comes!
yeah this is the same gif as last time as I don't have much else to show lol
OTHER STUFF...?
Besides getting my life together, managing post launch DAM stuff and resting... I've been working quite a bit on something else. It's not remotely ready to be shown to the public, last week I completed its first private demo, a prototype, if you will, but it's been a blast to work on something new after almost 2 years of just Dice A Million. I've been secretly talking about this project for a long time and after making this very cool first prototype, I can say this is gonna be my next game, unless I come up with a smaller sideproject in the meantime, which could totally be the case lol
I don't know when or how I'm gonna release this game, since it is a very big one and has a lot of intricate systems and story. I once considered releasing it in chapters, but that won't work with its current structure, though definitely expect a demo some time :) I also should say that it has nothing to do with Dice A Million in terms on gameplay. so don't expect another dice game, heck not even another roguelike. I'm 100% aware that when I make a proper announcement, some people will be disappointed that I'm not making another similar game, but that's something I knew from the beginning. If you enjoyed the lore and hidden secrets of Dice A Million, as well as its underlying story... I'm sure you will enjoy this next thing.
