addedWith Dead Pets obviously having its roots in punk, I want to go over the history of punk starting with the origin! Punk music started to form in the early 1970s in the undergrounds of New York and London to challenge the status quo. Pushed by the youth, it was a cry for change from the outsiders against the mainstream culture. The Talking Heads, Blondie, and many other bands performed together at popular clubs expanding the reach of punk. While it may have started in the US, the culture spread to the UK in response to the dire economy with the band Sex Pistols. Punk now has evolved into a wide array of variance to it. Hardcore punk, Pop punk, Punk rock, Anarcho punk, and so many more. Safe to say punk is now a part of history.
