We are very excited to announce that Version 4 of the Computer Companion is now available for beta testing.
This is an entirely new version that introduces exciting new features and support for The Lost Tome of Extrordinay Rules.
Version 4 is a free upgrade from version 3. It will automatically upgrade the adventurer file to version 4. (The version 3 adventure file will be saved as "[original name].xml.V3 - or .V2 as appropriate".) To get the new version, start the Steam console and select D100 Dungeon Computer Companion. Select the Manage button (the gear icon) and then "Properties...". Select BETAS (on the left) and choose the v4-beta on the right. Note, you can switch back as you like but version 4 adventurer files will not be usable in version 3 of the Computer Companion. The Lost Tome of Extraordinary Rules is available on Steam as a DLC's which can be purchased using the Steam console or withing the game (Settings/Features). Note that like the Computer Companion, the PDFs and printed books must be purchased separately. If you find any issues, especially crashes, do not restart the Companion. Please send your adventurer .xml file along with some description of what you were doing to DungeonSoftwareUS@gmail.com.
New Features
As already mentioned, all features in The Lost Tome of Extraordinary Rules are now supported.
A new means to be able to move items in-between various locations: On the Ground. This permits more complicated moves between equipment, backpack, etc. It also formalizes a place for deleted items prior to their full deletion. It is well documented in the Help system.
The before-your-next-quest log is now saved and restored.
All of the windows that were split into top and bottom now have a version that is not split. This is useful for larger displays.
If an item is acquired that can be drunk, when choosing where to place the item, a Drink button is now available.
- Test failure and success is now logged. These can be enabled/disabled in settingsLogging. They may also be individually colored. Not that Verbose must be enabled to see these messages.
All the windows now support the mouse wheel.
Right clicking on a tab allows the tab text to be changed.
The logging text is now aware of the operating system display theme (light, dark, etc.) A new button has been added to each of the entries in Settings/Logging: Auto. It changes the color from user-specified to automatic. While this is the default for new users, pre-existing users will need to select Auto to enable this feature.
Settings
A new setting group: Display.
- A new settingDisplay/Main Window Left Right Border. When enabled, it adds a small border to the left and right of the main window to help set off the interior windows. This is useful when the main window is displayed maximized.
- A new settingAutoRoll/Subsidiary/Equipment slot. When enabled, the roll button will be pressed automatically when a search for an Equipment slot is needed (generally for a penalty). Note that if multiple rolls are required to locate an appropriate equipment slot only the last successful roll will be shown.
- A new setting groupFeatures. This allows the individual books (DLC's) to be enabled/disabled. While this was added primarily for testing, some users may find this useful as the Companion does change based on what books have been purchased.
