changedthe world is much smaller and made for walking — much more of a traditional first-person adventure approach ( Myst , The Talos Principle , The Witness ) over the previously attempted open-world sandbox exploration formula ( Outer Wilds , Subnautica [-ish], Sable );
changedactual real-life controller support (should be universal but not tested across every platform and every possible gamepad);
addedstrongly improved load system (the game can now start landed woahhhh);
addedmajor fixes to controls (a whole new inertia system had to be implemented to move away from the old "cursor-to-turn" flight steering, while pretty much a copy of the same system is now used to smooth out the "walking jerkiness" of Prototype );

What is different from Prototype:

  • the game is entirely (and highly immersively) in first person;

  • the world is much smaller and made for walking — much more of a traditional first-person adventure approach (Myst, The Talos Principle, The Witness) over the previously attempted open-world sandbox exploration formula (Outer Wilds, Subnautica [-ish], Sable);

  • flight is much slower and, along with the ship weapons, needs to be unlocked first (in the name of progression);

  • combat has been taken out;

  • the game now uses URP, which makes it both look better and run significantly smoother (especially on low-end hardware);

  • actual real-life controller support (should be universal but not tested across every platform and every possible gamepad);

  • strongly improved load system (the game can now start landed woahhhh);

  • major fixes to controls (a whole new inertia system had to be implemented to move away from the old "cursor-to-turn" flight steering, while pretty much a copy of the same system is now used to smooth out the "walking jerkiness" of Prototype);

  • embarrassingly, dozens of random Prototype bugs and oversights were fixed.
