Hi.

Very low on my list of priorities, but the development of Cloudome is continuing in what I am referring to as Cloudome XS (although the release name of the project is still planned to be just Cloudome). Though sharing a lot of assets with Prototype, it will be a much different experience, so it will be come out as a separate game—where exactly and when I cannot tell yet, so for playable demos and updates please consider following my Patreon or the Cloudome's IndieDB page.

The central idea is to remix the unfinished, unfunded, too intellectually demanding (apparently), dispersed structure of Prototype into a more straightforward, compact, accessible form actually akin to Myst, The Talos Principle, or perhaps The Witness. Core changes:

  • Significantly betterer optimized code;

  • Better looking/optimized renderer (URP);

  • Entirely in first-person;

  • Entirely different and much more accessible flight controls;

  • Way less flying in general because ...

  • ... The game is much more of a "grounded," walkable adventure/puzzle experience;

  • Walking controls are also improved quite a bit;

  • Controller support;

  • New UI and QoL additions.

Still on Unity, because that's how the project started 28 thousand years ago, and I am but one human being and this isn't my job. However, if you would like for Cloudome to showcase the capabilities of your engine, under the right condition$ I can be very open-minded.

Should you wish to test the new camera, flight model, and the controller support, you can absolutely download it on IndieDB. Aside from a few random things being moved around (enemies are turned off*, structure 1 is open, framerate counter is back) this is essentially a full, completable build of Prototype, but with the new systems that would take you forever. Please don't attempt to actually play this beyond checking out the controls: the game will not stop you.

  • as far as I can tell right now, they will pretty much remain so indefinitely.

One more thing: Prototype... I am effectively freezing in time, so it will not receive any of the improvements and fixes from XS (Prototype is already three different sources— Demo, w/ Steam API, and w/o Steam API —which leads to nine different builds for every little fix), but I have noticed one pretty big problem the other day, and I have addressed it. The framerate counter. It was never supposed to be there. In fact, I am pretty sure it wasn't for at least the first few builds of Prototype. But as I kept working on it, I of course turned it on and at one point entirely forgot about it. Oops. It's gone now. I also fixed a few tiny UI problems no one would've ever encountered. Nothing else from XS is coming to Prototype.

  • thanks.
