Cloak And Coin changes
Greetings Thieves,
I hope you are all doing well. I’ve been busy working behind the scenes to rework and polish some of the existing features in Cloak And Coin. The main focus for this update was getting Career Mode closer to how I originally envisioned it when I first started working on the game.
Rather than just fixing issues as they appear, my focus has shifted toward refining the experience as a whole, smoothing rough edges, improving clarity, and making sure the game better explains itself to new players.
Mimic Chests Curse
Something I’ve wanted to tackle for quite some time is adding Mimic Chests to the world of Cloak And Coin. I really love the idea of chests that may… or may not… try to eat you.
I’m proud to announce that Mimic Chests have now been added to the Curse pool for all difficulties in Career Mode going forward.
When the Mimic Chests curse is active, it won’t directly punish players by replacing the regular chests that spawn during a contract. Instead, Mimic Chests will be added to the contract in additional locations.
Mimic Chests can be identified by watching for any abnormal movements or noises. Funnily enough, regular chests don’t tend to move or make noise.
I won’t spoil any more than that, I’ll let you discover the rest!
Career Mode Overhaul
Career Mode has been overhauled and now includes some highly requested features, including more information about what you’re actually doing these missions for. Think of it as a little story of sorts.
A new Quest Board has been added, detailing:
The number of days remaining
Funds secured
The ability to re-read your overall mission objective
This update also includes two new Guilded Quill newspaper articles, one for successfully beating Career Mode and another for failing to do so.
The goal of these changes was to rework the mission flow and make the game feel more cohesive, like you and your crew are actively working towards something. It may also be laying the groundwork for future Career Mode expansions and new Finale heists… nudge, nudge.
Alongside the Career Mode overhaul, I’ve added several quality of life improvements. This includes making the Finale objective more obvious and introducing a new Objective Diamond that replaces the previous objective marker. I feel this is necessary to help new players better understand what they’re required to do in each contract.
Update 1.3 Patch Notes
I’ve also put a lot of effort into adding much needed quality of life features and squashing as many bugs as I can find (and once again, a huge thank you to everyone who submits bug reports in the Discord server).
Gameplay:
Added new Mimic Chest Curse modifier.
Added new Career Mode Quest Board to the Rogues’ Den.
Added the ability for players to join and invite friends to lobbies via the Steam Presence menu (Shift + Tab).
Reworked several milestone achievements to make 100% completion more achievable
Updated the water in the Rogues’ Den to actually look like water (previously it looked like we were floating in the clouds).
Added a new equipment counter to Sandie’s equipment store to help newer players understand how many equipment slots they have.
Updated all contract-based objectives to use a unified objective marker design.
Updated the Finale contract to include locked and unlocked states, improving visual clarity in Career Mode.
Added a new lockbox for the Finale contract in Career Mode that unlocks once you’ve secured enough funds.
Tweaked and rebalanced enemy Guard movement speed for Hard and Elite difficulties.
Added new failsafes for enemy Guards so that if they become stuck for too long, they reset and return to their patrol paths.
Bug fixes:
Fixed an issue where players could get stuck in jail cells after being rescued in Jewels of the Trade contract.
Fixed an issue where Spectators rescued while in a menu could become stuck in UI mode.
Fixed an issue where Career Mode runs would not end after running out of remaining days.
Fixed an issue where the ESC key could not be rebound in the keyboard options menu.
Fixed an issue where the contract escape circle and flag icon would not appear for late-joining players.
Fixed an issue where Spectators could occasionally not see remaining team lives in the pause menu.
As always, if you’d like to report bugs, share clips, or chat with me and other Thieves, you can join the community here.
Happy heisting,
netDOT
