City Painter changes
Today marks one week since the release of City Painter in Early Access! Thank you so much to everyone who decided to buy the game at such an early stage, and to those who went a step further and supported me by also purchasing the Supporter Pack. Thank you for reporting bugs, sharing your cities, and sharing ideas for improving the game!
If any of you are still thinking about buying it, I'd like to remind you that the game is available with a 20% launch discount only until April 11th.
Below you will find the changelog for the biggest update so far (0.1.5), prepared for the one-week anniversary of the release:
City traffic:
Workers and students will now look for work/school more locally. I changed the algorithm so that they look for the best available spot, considering the distance from their home.
I added the ability to change workplaces (and schools) whenever a better position appears closer to home.
Residents will now visit local shops more often, and will only travel further for "bigger shopping" once every few days.
I fixed a bug where a customer, after arriving at a store, would walk on foot to a completely different one.
I removed the double solid line on residential roads (two-way two-lane). Leaving or arriving at a building will now also be possible from the lane on the other side of the road.
I increased the pedestrian range. This will liven up the sidewalks and relieve traffic on the roads.
Performance optimizations:
when deleting buildings,
when drawing roads,
when road snapping is enabled,
when opening the Intersection Editor.
I also introduced other optimizations during gameplay.
General additions and fixes:
I added the highly anticipated tool for drawing straight roads!
I improved the line connections at intersections of regular roads with highways.
I increased the length and spacing of dashed lines on highway roads.
I added a teleportation option (individual and for the whole city) to the destination. This will help in situations where the city is gridlocked by traffic jams or a vehicle gets stuck due to a bug.
I fixed bugs related to buildings overlapping streets. From now on, they will not cover widened roads or obscure the preview while drawing.
Interface:
Housing and workplace counters now only include the parts of buildings that are connected to roads. If a part is not connected, an appropriate message will be displayed.
I increased the click detection range for intersections using the Intersection Editor. It will now be easier to enter editing mode, and harder to accidentally exit it.
I improved cursor visibility.
I added icons next to the cursor that indicate the currently selected tool.
I added warning icons to indicate dead-end roads.
I added information about the keyboard shortcut that opens the tool in the tooltips.
I also made other minor interface tweaks.
I added translation of the game into French and Russian.
Once again, thank you so much for your involvement. I'm looking forward to your feedback on this update and more ideas for future development. I would also be very grateful if you leave a positive review on Steam. It helps the algorithm notice the game and gives me motivation for further work!
