Chimera CUSTOM XG changes
The pyramids are ready to reveal their ancient secrets.
Battle through alien hordes to hunt the Anunnaki.
This update is an absolute unit of content you can chew on for hours, from new pyramids to fighting Anunnaki gods, to a complete overhaul of the UI and a brand new permanent progression system. There is so much to explore and explode, let’s talk about it.
Pyramids
The ancient structures await, packed with brand-new challenges, stunning vistas, and boss fights that would very much prefer you stop existing.
These aren’t just bigger run-and-gun arenas. Every pyramid is overflowing with traps, hazards, and environmental nonsense designed specifically to end your run in the most embarrassing way possible.
And getting there? Not exactly a leisurely stroll. First, you'll need to take down the bosses lurking in the present-day biomes. One boss defeated, one artifact claimed, one new path revealed. Simple in theory. Less simple when something inhuman and ten times your size is trying to flatten you.
Each pyramid brings its own flavor of suffering. Can you survive the blistering heat of the Fire Pyramid? Are you sure you want to know what’s hiding in the Shadow Pyramid? And perhaps the most important question, can you make it out of the Light Pyramid alive?
That’s all we’re willing to tell you, despite this being the biggest part of the update. The rest? You’ll have to discover firsthand. Assuming of course, you survive long enough to see it.
UI Overhaul
Everything. And we mean everything. As far as the eye can see has been rebuilt visually and mechanically. Menus, progression, customization, the whole thing got dragged into the lab and came out significantly better looking.
It's also fully reactive to controller input, which is objectively the superior way to play. Mouse and keyboard players, don't worry. We remembered you exist, too.
Let's break it down.
Permanent Progression with Randi The brand new permanent C.U.S.T.O.M. progression system is here. Unlock upgrades that permanently enhance your runs, open up ridiculous build possibilities, and generally make your future attempts slightly less painful than your previous ones.
Genetic Power Selection The shop has undergone a serious mutation. Every animal power is now easier to understand, making it much simpler to create the exact playstyle you want instead of blindly hoping for the best. Also, the new artwork looks incredible, which never hurts.
Dr. Cobb's Gene Augments No more guessing what's out there. You can now browse every available augment, see exactly what it does, and plan your grind accordingly. Some of the strongest augments in the game are locked behind biome bosses, because earning things builds character.
Pause Screen (a.k.a. Character Menu) New visuals. New stats. New everything. Your equipment, augments, buffs, and all the glorious chaos happening to your character can now be viewed in one place. Better yet, you can see exactly how those effects are impacting your damage, crit chance, and other stats. For those who enjoy turning games into spreadsheets, this one's for you.
Settings Screen It finally behaves itself.
Whether you're using a controller or mouse and keyboard, navigation is smoother, cleaner, and significantly less likely to make you question your life choices.
More Quality of Life
Because giant new features weren't enough, we also spent time making a bunch of smaller things better.
Here's some of what has changed:
Guns can now roll buffs that stack with your selected buffs. If you've ever wanted your build to spiral completely out of control, congratulations.
Break down pretty much everything for more Gun Bucks. Your junk is now your valuable junk.
Windowed fullscreen is available. We were told this was important, so now it's here.
Genetics now sits neatly beneath your heavy weapon for better readability, and it scales properly. Revolutionary stuff, really.
More sound effects than we can reasonably list. Trust us, things make noises now.
A bunch of other improvements we're definitely forgetting because the sticky note with the full list has mysteriously vanished.
Just know that if something feels smoother, cleaner, or less annoying than before, there's a decent chance it was part of this update.
We've rebuilt systems, added entirely new challenges, overhauled the interface, and packed in more improvements than we can probably remember at this point.
The rest is up to you. Dive in, experiment with some absurd builds, uncover what the pyramids are hiding, and try not to become part of the scenery.
Thanks for playing, and good luck. You're going to need it. Become the Chimera!
Love, Team Volok
