This is a big one. Two brand new game modes, a completely redesigned UI, and a whole lot of chaos. Let's get into it. NEW MODE: Kung Fu Chess

Chess just got a whole lot faster.

Forget taking turns. In Kung Fu Chess, both players move at the same time, in real time. There are no turns — just you, your opponent, and pure speed. This isn't a gimmick mode. This is chess with the handbrake ripped off.

  • Simultaneous play — both sides can move at any time. No waiting. No turns. Just go

  • 10-second cooldown — after you move a piece, it's locked for 10 seconds before you can use it again. Choose wisely

  • Pieces travel in real time — 1 second per square. You'll see your rook sliding across the board while your opponent's knight is already mid-jump

  • Premoves — queue up a move on a piece that's still on cooldown. It fires the instant the cooldown ends

  • King capture wins — no checkmate, no stalemate. The only way to win is to physically grab the enemy King. Miss your chance and the game keeps going

  • No special moves — no castling, no en passant, no promotion restrictions. Pure piece movement, pure speed

  • Cooldown visualization — pieces dim when on cooldown with a shrinking bar so you always know what's available

  • AI opponents — play Kung Fu Chess against the AI at Easy, Medium, Hard, or Master difficulty

If you've never played Kung Fu Chess before: it will break your brain in the best way possible. Every game is chaos, every second matters, and the first time you lose your King because you were too busy attacking is a feeling you won't forget.

NEW MODE: Kung Fu Chess Extreme

Everything from Kung Fu Chess, plus a buff and power system that rewards aggressive play.

  • Buff points — earn points by capturing enemy pieces. The more you take, the stronger you get

  • Buff tiers — unlock new power levels as your points grow: Pawn (6) → Knight (13) → Bishop (20) → Rook (30) → Queen (40)

  • Double move — activate your buff to immediately move a piece again, ignoring its cooldown. Shown as a teal glow on the piece

  • Buff decay — stop capturing and your points drain by 1 every 2 seconds. Stay aggressive or lose your edge

  • Buff bar UI — track your progress toward the next tier with a visual bar, tier markers, and an activation button

  • Survival: Extreme — the Elimination survival mode now has a Kung Fu: Extreme variant with escalating AI difficulty

New UI

I know the old UI was overwhelming and cluttered — too many options crammed together, hard to find what you're looking for. This redesign is meant to fix that. Everything is cleaner, more organized, and easier to navigate. Hope it helps!

Main Menu

  • New layout with 3 large cards: Play, Learn, Profile

  • Journey progress bar at the top

  • Fresh visual design with gold and teal ambient gradients

Play Hub

  • Redesigned as a 2x2 grid: Quick Match, Kung Fu Chess, Puzzles, and Competitive

  • Variant toggle lets you switch between Normal, Kung Fu, and Kung Fu: Extreme right from Quick Match

  • New Competitive sub-hub with League, Tournament, and Elimination all in one place

Kung Fu Hub

  • Dedicated screen for Kung Fu modes with variant toggle (Normal / Kung Fu / Kung Fu: Extreme)

  • Difficulty selector, quick match start, and survival mode link

  • Pre-round opponent preview

In-Game (Kung Fu)

  • Real-time board with smooth piece transit animations

  • Cooldown bars on pieces, premove ghost arrows, destination highlights

  • Buff bar with tier progress and activation button (Extreme mode)

  • King capture explosion and screen shake effect

General

  • Updated status bar showing level, XP, daily goals, and streak

  • Improved navigation with persistent back button

  • Smoother card hover animations and transitions across all screens

Early Days — Report Issues!

All of this is brand new. The Kung Fu modes, the Extreme buff system, the redesigned UI — it's all fresh out of the oven. That means there will be bugs, rough edges, and things that don't feel quite right yet.

If you run into anything weird — a visual glitch, a cooldown that feels off, a buff that doesn't trigger, a screen that looks broken — please report it. I'm actively fixing and tweaking things, and your feedback makes a huge difference.

As always thank you so much for playing! This has been a big one, but i'm not done yet more is coming, and if you like these alternative chess modes like kung fu chess i might be adding more. Steam post image
