This video goes over how I render the highly detailed terrain for the planets in Celestial Golf from NASA source data, and bring it into Godot, providing a bumpy collision surface for the ball to bounce on.

In November, I posted the Making Planets devlog which was part one of an intended two-part series. I finally put the second part together. This video goes over how I render the highly detailed terrain for the planets in Celestial Golf from NASA source data, and bring it into Godot, providing a bumpy collision surface for the ball to bounce on.

By the way, I have received feedback about the surface being perhaps a bit too bumpy (the spikes can sometimes be a real pain to get the ball past if you are stuck in a crevasse). If that was your impression from the playtest, I would love to hear your feedback. I am planning to do a pass over this and perhaps smooth it out a bit. But overall I am very happy with the look of the planet terrains.
