Hey Captains!
We’re kicking off the first devblog for Caribbean Tide – a game of high-seas adventure set in the 17th-century Caribbean. This is an open-world experience blending exploration, trade, crew management, and naval encounters across a vast map that covers the entire Caribbean basin. Long-distance voyages can be accelerated, although this comes with the possibility of running into random events along the way.
Wind mechanics are a key part of the gameplay. The direction and strength of the wind have a real impact on navigation and positioning during naval battles – making good use of the conditions often gives a decisive advantage.
There’s no traditional “ game over ” in Caribbean Tide. If a player’s character dies, they’ll be transported to a port doctor or a tavern, facing appropriate consequences, but the game continues. Details of this system will be discussed in future devblogs.
Crew management is essential: crew members need to be recruited and provided with three core resources – money, food, and fresh water. Each of these influences the journey in different ways. Water can be obtained in port, but also on uninhabited islands – though the latter option comes with its own risks.
