Hello World!

We’re Quorum Games and you’re reading our first devlog for Call of Elyndra. Hopefully, you’ll stick around :)

There are also two announcements by the end of it!

An Overview of Call of Elyndra

So, what exactly is Call of Elyndra? It’s a game that combines 2 genres - cozy farming simulators and oldschool, narrative-driven 2D action RPGs. Think, Stardew Valley meets TLOZ: A Link To The Past. We think that taking the best of both worlds will result in something special… And will allow you to play the game the way you want.

By this, we mean that aside from the introductory stage of the game (which you can experience in the demo LINK) you will have the freedom to focus on questing and fighting, or farming and chilling. HOWEVER, if you want to do both - you can. This way, you’ll get the full experience and you’ll satiate both your cozy and adventurous sides.

This game is also pretty different from other cozy games because you can finish it. In a conventional sense, not by just reaching the endgame. Call of Elyndra will feature a cohesive storyline.

The story begins…

One faithful night, you have a dream. It feels more real than anything else you’ve ever dreamed. An otherworldly voice tells you to embark on a voyage to the small village of Elyndra - a middle of nowhere for a citizen of the Empire like you. When you finally arrive there, you meet Ariadne and Kaelan, two young adventurers also brought to the village by the very same dream. The villagers are quite reluctant to accommodate you, but after a discussion, they give you an overgrown plot of land and a ruin of a house. Your task is to prove that you’re worthy to stay there. However, this is only the beginning of the story…

The narrative will have plenty of things to focus on - building relationships, changing convictions, facing an overwhelming enemy force, and plenty of lore. As a matter of fact, we had to substantially scale down what we had wanted to include in our game. At this moment, a 100% playthrough is expected to last for more or less 30+ hours.

Meet the Elyndrans!

We mentioned building relationships above. You, as a player character, will control a character you’ll name. So, here’s a little list of some of the most important NPCs.

Ariadne was born into a family of scholars, where books were the best companions and ideas, the greatest weapons. Her analytical mind and observant nature made her both admired and isolated. She was comfortable with her seclusion, preferring the company of her thoughts. However, she carried a secret longing to experience life. She will be one of your main companions.

Kaelan comes from a long line of warriors. From an early age, he was expected to follow this path. The familial expectations molded him into a brash, assertive, and risk-taking individual who jumped headfirst into any situation. However, deep down, he carried a desire to be more than just a warrior, to break free from the constraints of his lineage. He will also be one of your closest companions.

Chief Eldon is the patriarch of the village of Elyndra. An elder but towering figure. He is extremely protective of his people and almost lashes out at most outsiders. The resolve and perseverance he embodies force him to often choose the greater good rather than what he personally prefers. He will be one of the first and most important characters you’ll encounter.

Vexaris, The Chancellor of the Archonian Empire. His brash yet disciplined nature can easily intimidate his subordinates… Not to mention civilians. You’ll get to know him early and he’ll be the man to beat. What secrets does he hold, though?

These few will be quite important along your journey, but you’ll encounter dozens of other characters - all of them with their own opinions, motivations, and such. It will be worth bonding with them because they will be able to assist you in your quests.

Slash and bash

The combat system will be quite basic in the demo but will be heavily expanded upon in the later versions of the game. Currently, you can:

  • swing your sword,

  • dash,

  • shoot arrows,

  • plant bombs.

This list will be heavily expanded, though, because there will be two major systems we’d like to talk briefly about.

Items that you’ll find will help you with traversing the terrain and some of them will also help you in combat.

There are also other features and mechanics planned. We’ll see how many of our ideas will make it to the game. We believe that more is better, sure, but we are also realists.

However, not all in this world has to be resolved by conflict, at least not directly by you. You can focus on farming and the cozy stuff.

Reject the Empire, return to farm

Call of Elyndra allows you to put heavy emphasis on the cozy side of things. You’re handed a plot of overgrown land in the first few minutes of the game. Your goal? To grow enough crops to support the people of Elyndra. And there will be plenty of things to consider before you’ll be able to set up your turnip empire!

The game will have dozens of types of seeds you’ll be able to plant. The demo will feature a couple of them. The full version will have additional mechanics like crop rotations, having some plants grow better in different parts of the year, soil exhaustion, and such. This means that Call of Elyndra will combine the cozy approach and easily understandable mechanics for people who wanna kick back and relax, while also having layers upon layers of things to be figured out if you’d like to maximize your crop output and run the most efficient farmland in the world.

There’s so much more to the farm life than just farming, though. You’ll be able to:

  • Tend to animals.

  • Fish to relax and discover what the bountiful rivers of Elyndra hide.

  • Build relationships with the villagers and some other people - you’re not alone in this world, after all!

And plenty more. So, grab the hatchet and the scythe and start clearing that plot of land, potatoes won’t grow themselves!

Just a sprinkling of tech stuff

While the tech stuff is often overlooked, we have a cool small fact to share.

  • The game runs on a heavily modified version of the RPG Maker engine. However, 70% of the code is custom-made. So more than twice the original engine!

There are 2 things we want to announce:
