RE: OVERWATCH AND SUPPRESSION MECHANICS
Layering in depth, realism and immersion.
//----
Overwatch
Overwatch isn't some magic toggle you just click. It’s part of the professional DNA of your operators. Their Pathways and Specializations reflect what they’ve learned, and it reflects on how they control a sector. This isn't about being locked into a role; it’s about their tactical evolution. You start with what they know, but as they specialize in the field, they adapt—picking up the technical habits and discipline that turn a local volunteer into a lethal professional.
NATO / US Style (Sector Interdiction): This is that precision-heavy mindset you’d find in a Ranger or a contractor. You set a tight cone, your operator settles into the optics, and they’re looking for a surgical interdiction. When someone crosses that line, it’s an aimed burst designed for a **Hard Stop**. It’s surgical and lethal. - Eastern / Soviet Style (Suppressive Screening): This is a different layer of doctrine. It’s a wider view focused on protecting the squad. If an enemy opens fire on your team, your operator isn't just waiting—they’re hosing that muzzle flash with saturating fire. It’s about keeping the enemy's head down so your team has the space to move.
###
Suppression
Then there’s the suppression. We’re getting deep into the effects of psychological pressure using what we call Suppression Units (SU). We want you to feel the difference between a 5.56 snap and the absolute crisis of a 7.62 or .50 cal burst hosing your position.
The Weight of Lead: Every round that cracks within a meter of your operator adds to that SU count. It’s the "Price of Action." As that lead starts flying, focus, vision, and accuracy start to degrade. - No Stun-Locks: This is the important part— you don't freeze. We aren't doing "gamey" stuns. You’re fighting against your operator's survival instinct. - The Survival Instinct: Your operators will naturally want to hit the dirt or find a wall. If characters survive morale checks, and possible effects of SCARs, you then decide whether to push through that stress and take the shot, or have them seek cover? Losing a morale check, can force a character to make those decisions on their own. Characters aren't automatons.
####
Fix and Flank
The real payoff is how these systems talk to each other. You use suppression to fix an enemy in place, forcing them to prioritize keeping their head down over shooting back. That creates the tactical window for your other element to maneuver.
Morale Collapse: When a unit is suppressed and realizes they’re being outflanked, that pressure doesn't just climb—it doubles. - The Breaking Point: That’s the moment a position collapses and morale breaks. It’s not about who has the higher "stat"; it’s about using real-world tactics and the skills your team has built up to win the fight.
