beyond.frontiers changes
After a longer period of silence, we’d like to share an update on the current state and direction of beyond.frontiers.
Over the past months, we have paused regular public updates to perform a thorough technical overhaul of the project. This decision was made following our visit to Revision 2025, where we gathered significant feedback and input from other developers and creators. Much of it challenged the foundation of the current game, which led us to revisit core systems, scope, and the planned feature roadmap.
We are now in active development of Patch 0.6.0, titled UNDAUNTED. The roadmap has been reset. No release estimate is available yet, but development will continue steadily, with new insights and previews to be shared on our Discord and YouTube channels in the coming weeks and months.
Planned Additions and Changes for Patch 0.6.0
New Features:
Ship Scaling: Ships have been resized to better reflect their class and function, improving spatial consistency.
- Sector ScalingSector size has increased by a factor of 20 to allow for more exploration space.
Station Scaling: Stations now scale proportionally to ship sizes, functioning more like small cities.
Hyperlanes: System-internal fast-travel paths between key locations.
- New ShipsTwo additional starter-class ships (Syf and Arcos) have been added.
- Revised Character CreationPlayers will choose one of three ships when starting a new game.
New Space Backgrounds: Visual variety has been expanded with additional high-resolution skyspheres.
- New World GenerationProcedural generation has been rewritten for improved structure and consistency.
- 3D PlanetsThe game now includes a selection of over 70 landable planetary types with new textures.
Planet Surfaces: Certain planets will be explorable on foot or via land vehicles.
and much, much more...
Features in Development:
Land Control: Factions will be able to claim and tax planetary surfaces.
Planetary Cities: Cities serve as economic and production hubs under faction ownership.
Atmospheric Entry: Gradual descent systems from space to planet surface.
Sector Editor: Players will be able to create and customize their own sectors.
- Collision SimulationA new physical system for handling collisions and docking behavior.
Station Interiors: Ability to exit ships and navigate station environments.
- UI and System ImprovementsNew main menu, redesigned UI, and updated faction visuals.
Expanded Hardware Support: Preliminary support planned for Controllers, VR, HOTAS, AudioLink, and Steam Deck.
Changes:
- Skysphere RotationBackgrounds can now be rotated per sector for improved variance.
Access Restrictions: Reputation now affects whether a player can dock at a station.
Equipment System (EQP): Equipment slots now introduce progression mechanics via point-based limits.
Fixes:
Blank names and blackscreen bugs after jumping between systems have been resolved.
Removed:
Station Company Ownerships: All stations are now owned by core factions. This change simplifies access logic and reputation tracking.
Pricing Notice
Due to shifts in development costs, environmental factors, and overall project scope, we plan to raise the price of beyond.frontiers in the near future to an average of 20$ to keep the development of beyond.frontiers running. The current pricing structure was set during a much earlier phase of development. With the growing complexity and long-term vision of the game, this adjustment is necessary to support ongoing work, infrastructure, and fair compensation for contributors.
We will continue to share development insights through our regular communication channels on Youtube and Discord. Thank you for your patience and interest in the project.
