Becoming Captain - The Roguelike Deckbuilder changes
We are live on Steam!
Our demo is now live on Steam, and this time we are ready. Next Fest is coming up this Monday and for this occasion, we are unveiling our brand new demo for Becoming Captain. We are extremely excited to see you all come and try the updated version of our game!
Our plan is to leave the demo there until the end of NextFest on March 3rd. So you have until then to go and try it out!

Major Bug Fixes & Stability
Fixed multiple perks that weren't triggering or applying correctly:
Tasty Potato.
Bloodletter.
Eyepatch.
Friendly Monkey.
Poisoner.
HeartLockets.
Vampire Harness (repair timing).
Dagger Master("slices attacks cost 0").
Bad Haggler.
Fixed Continue button on Loot Screen — now reliably collects money and resolved Loot Screen exploits (Sorry, no infinite money for you.)
Patched "Enter key" exploit that skipped opponent turns / drained energy.
Closed infinite event refresh exploit (deck → return looping).
Fixed AI softlock at exactly 2 Mana.
Fixed AI playing cards it didn't actually have.
Resolved mana not properly resetting between fights.
Fixed player deck card generation — newly created cards now correctly enter and display in deck.
Fixed unexpected shop navigation / repeated Big Bill fights after deck checks.
Fixed softlock with end-turn button during tutorial.
Removed Craft Weapon card from pool temporarily (due to AI glitches — will return later).
Dropping card on end-turn button no longer accidentally ends turn.
Perks & Status Effects Improvements
Adjusted Hemorrhage: no longer fades automatically at turn start. You need active removal via bandage.
Improved clearer Poison UI (stacks, effects, damage display).
Fixed Status effect (FIRE) tooltip.
- Enhanced overall perk displayadded color to descriptions.
UI & Visual Polish
Improved PERK hover tooltips. Now always appear on top (no overlaps).
Added real-time visual feedback when buying cards (shows them being added to deck).
Font & text overhaul across the game.
UI color adjustments.
Remade Energy pool animation using Shader Graphs + fixed associated UI bug.
Fixed weapon durability display.
Added color change for upgraded card stats.
Main menu upgrade + basic shop "Instruction" improvements.
Combat & Gameplay Balance
Fixed Random unusable Event — now triggers and functions correctly.
Reduced Big Billy's baseball bat stun (balance fix).
Removed base bleed from Hack attack (machete).
Hotkeys now disabled when game is paused.
AI cards now properly destroyed between fights (memory optimization)
Events, Progression & Win Condition
Added 3 new events.
Updated WIN SCREEN with refreshed visuals and smoother triumphant flow.
Fixed game progression & shop triggers — shops appear correctly after every fights, streamlined level-up flow.
Audio, Misc & Quality of Life
Added sound effect on combat victory.
Changed laser gun's name.
Fixed various typos.
Implemented bug reporting system.
Updated the game's menu.
