Battle for Wesnoth changes
Campaigns
Heir to the Throne
- S01 "The Elves Besieged"reduced starting gold, but added gold pickups near enemy keeps. Added more swamp hexes.
- S03 "Blackwater Port"added a secondary, coastal entry point for this scenario, so Konrad can make better use of Merfolk if he has them.
S10 "The Siege of Elensefar": rebalanced gold, income, and AI. Maddock's AI is now less likely to defend unthreatened bridges or idle his ships.
On the overworld, the waters around Elensefar now better connect to the rest of the passable coast.
After completing either Elensefar scenario, Elensefar now provides Konrad with a port on the overworld.
Slightly increased Li'sar's hitpoints. Li'sar "march" ability is no longer hidden.
Eastern Invasion
- S13 "Spoils of War"removed the map's keep, to prevent player recruitment and stay consistent with the intro and victory dialogue.
Heir to the Throne
Enemy leaders should now behave more intelligently if Konrad tries to assassinate them with skirmisher and the Scepter of Fire.
- S02 "Flight of the Elves"fixed Konrad gaining the wrong recruit if between 11 and 15 elves had died.
Konrad's advancements now deal more ranged damage, but less melee damage.
S04 "The Bay of Pearls": villages can no longer be destroyed during the victory cutscene, as that would affect gold carryover.
The Deceivers Gambit
- S07 "The Great River"adjusted map, enemies, and starting XP. Patrol paths should now be more obvious, and more strategies should now be viable on Hard/Deadly (Easy/Normal were already very straightforward).
S08 "Ruins of Saurgrath", S10 "Houses of the Dead": spell selection is now delayed until Delfador learns what kind of enemies he's fighting.
Winds of Fate
- S06 "Landfall"all new map of Elense Island and surrounding river delta by Dalas.
Packaging
The Mac Compile Stuff repository of dependencies for macOS is no longer supported. The primary supported way to get dependencies on macOS is now to use vcpkg; to check how to do that see the macOS CI job and related scripts
The migration from SDL2 to SDL3 has been completed. For distros without all the required SDL3 dependencies (probably mixer), these will need to be built and installed manually

WML Engine
Add a [overwrite_abilities] to abilities that use the value attribute with the exception of abilities used as weapons ([damage], [chance_to_hit], etc... implemented in the [abilities] tag).
Because overwrite_specials cannot be applied to other abilities and its design and functionality leave something to be desired, an [overwrite_specials] subtag will be added to eventually replace it.
Add to [overwrite_specials] an affect attribute to suppress special abilities affecting a unit applied to a particular side (apply_to=self or opponent) and which discriminates special abilities that affect self/student from special abilities belonging to the opponent, even if apply_to=attacker/defender is used.
The use of 'overwrite_specials' attribute and [overwrite] subtag in specials are deprecated
Added new version macros:
WESNOTH_VERSION_MAJOR (e.g. "1")
WESNOTH_VERSION_MINOR (e.g. "19")
WESNOTH_VERSION_REVISION (e.g. "23")
WESNOTH_VERSION_SPECIAL (e.g. "dev")
Miscellaneous and Bug Fixes
The wmllint tool has been updated to handle a several new deprecations and now runs on mainline without outputting warnings or changing any files
Fixed the manual link not working for non-English languages
