NEW BALANCED TECH TREE

The tech tree got rebalanced to support all types of playstyles with new players in mind:

It is divided into sections, each corresponding to a specific chapter of the game:

  • planetoids

  • water automation

  • planet exploration

  • astronauts

  • research – specialists

STARTING PLANETOIDS

Each time you start your adventure with Astro Colony you will have 5 planetoids at your disposal.

They serve as the initial source of resources and allow you to automate the station faster!

When you feel ready to explore infinite space, you can unpin them or hide all planetoids on the map.

STARTING PLANETS

Seeing players unlucky with starting seeds, I decided to change how the game begins.

Right now all difficult types like ellipsoid, sphere, crater, and cauliflower will be transformed into more favorable shapes!

You can clearly see how much flat surface and how exposed resources are.

PUSH OUT WHAT YOU WANT!

Every crafting device is now changing the way it pushes resources. It's doing it only for active recipes.

This way you can easily get rid of all "unwanted" resources.

NEW BOOSTER INDICATOR

Since the booster is a very important skill in the game, allowing you to traverse the universe faster, it is also now included in the UI. Steam post image

IMPROVED GUIDES

All guides in the guidebook got updated with a new, bigger format, videos, and texts.

MORE VISUAL POLISH - CATCHER BEAMS

Some visual glitches of humans in multiplayer or animations of devices like harpoon connectors got fixed. However, the most noticeable for you will be the asteroid catcher beam change! Steam post image

IMPROVEMENTS & FIXES

  • technology tree with a new design and section icons showing what the early focus is on, like planetoids, automation, exploration, etc.

  • new starting planetoids - 5 where 3 are pinned by default (marker)

  • starting planets changed, so instead of spheres or a crater, you will always get more flat

  • cost of buildings and technologies rebalanced

  • all guidebook pages updated with new graphics and bigger videos

  • tutorial missions with more hints and localization

  • new icon for booster - there are now 4 icons

  • asteroid catcher beams are now subtle

  • bot skipping some dialog fixed

  • many multiplayer visual glitches fixed

  • some in-game animations were fixed, like the harpoon connector gun

  • crafting devices are keeping inside only resources for active crafting recipes

  • fixed selection after rotation, so selection is kept

  • transport bots can deliver additional resources even if the device is full (or limited), so nothing is wasted

  • starting harpoon connector now delivers 2 power by default - it helps when setting up first drill on the planetoid

  • the way to pin/unpin planetoids

  • it is now possible to remove colony origin block in BLUEPRINTS

  • warning station arrow can be now removed and show READ

  • syncing improved, at least all my unsyncable savegames on my side started to sync again

There is nothing more that I really enjoy than playing Astro Colony from the start, having the excitement of the universe being generated just for me and progressing in the tech tree.

Maybe one day I will also think of a speedrunning category for it ;)
