Objective Tracker and Player Guidance Update
New: Objective Tracker
Added a new objective tracker that guides players through the game step by step.
24 sequential objectives now cover the full progression, from first infection to defeating bosses and completing contracts.
The tracker appears on the right side of the screen during gameplay.
Clicking it opens a detailed description explaining exactly what to do next.
Objectives persist across sessions and advance automatically as you play.
This system replaces the old hint and tutorial systems, which have been removed.
Controller Support
Controller support is now a manual toggle in Settings.
Open the menu, go to Settings, and enable Controller to activate gamepad mode.
When enabled, Steam controller inputs are mapped to game actions.
When disabled, no controller UI appears and all inputs behave as standard keyboard controls.
The setting persists between sessions.
ESC Now Pauses the Game
Pressing ESC now pauses the game and opens the menu.
Previously, ESC only closed panels without pausing, which could leave players vulnerable while reading the menu.
Pausing is free and does not drain resources.
ESC now closes sub-modals in the correct order.
Pressing ESC while in Settings closes Settings first instead of the entire menu.
Game Over Improvements
The game over screen now fades in over 800ms instead of appearing instantly.
It now shows a "Killed by" message displaying the enemy type that dealt the final blow.
All enemy types are now translated in all 8 supported languages.
Low HP Visual Feedback
A red vignette now appears at the edges of the screen when health drops below 30%.
The effect intensifies as health decreases.
It also pulses slowly to make critical health states much more noticeable.
Language and Translation
The default language is now English instead of Italian.
Translated over 55 previously hardcoded Italian strings.
This includes combo tier names, achievement names and descriptions, boss names, weapon names, crafting station names, catalyst names, ascension tier names, forge discovery popups, boss drop notifications, menu buttons, audio labels, and error messages.
All text is now properly translated in all 8 supported languages.
Menu Fixes
The red X button is now hidden when a sub-modal is open, preventing confusion about what it closes.
The menu title, play time, Steam Cloud label, and all toggle labels are now properly translated.
Fixes
Fixed shared structure textures not being preloaded, which caused structures to briefly appear as yellow hexagons before their images loaded.
Fixed the modified DNA collection animation not playing because the Pixi renderer was updating before the game engine.
Fixed ability unlock notifications overlapping with the hint overlay by shifting their position when needed.
Fixed a crash caused by the card drop modal calling React hooks after a conditional return, violating the Rules of Hooks.
