ALEK changes
ALEK Patch 1.0 will be completed and uploaded within the next week. While I’m working on it, please review the list and, if possible, add comments or wishes so I can promptly weave them into the new build.
The list of fixes you will see in the update:
Removed fall damage (there isn’t anywhere to fall)
Reduced damage from enemy fire
Increased damage from player shots (therefore greatly reducing enemies’ time to kill)
Implemented “hip-fire” shooting, as many requested
Implemented reloading while aiming
Changed gunshot sounds for pistols and the muzzle flash of the AKSU (the AK74 muzzle flash is fine) and removed the dense smoke from guns (this was often mentioned; I redid that) also reduced bullet spread for automatic weapons, making long-range shooting more accurate and convenient
Added medkits on levels
Reduced the number of grenades the bots carry; they will appear occasionally but now much less often (they caused the most complaints)
Implemented shoulder switching. Shooting near walls could glitch in some moments (the crosshair reads surfaces and, if the camera collides, shooting can be blocked). This fixes that issue and the ability to quickly switch shoulders compensates for this camera behavior. I don’t plan to tinker with shooting further
Some lighting improvements and a cosmetic pass across levels and their contents. Some things were removed, some added. Some elements scaled up or down
Added extra hints in some places (where and how to proceed)
Checkpoints: Given the above changes, I don’t see much point in adding more checkpoints—the game isn’t very long, and this patch would make it significantly easier
Ability to exit to the settings menu from the pause menu
Addition of a cutscene skip button, though it’s already present in the current version and can be activated by pressing the Enter key
I’ll try to tweak the audio further; some sounds are a bit quiet (steps, 3D positioning of enemies)
- About the game sizecurrently players are downloading a double build, because before the release I found a bug in the final version during Steam testing and uploaded another fixed version, but for new players the game now weighs twice as much. I didn’t disable the previous storage due to fear of a crash. The final size is about 19 GB. I will disable the two storages and connect a new one with fixes. With the update you should only download about 19 GB. But be aware that Steam might drop a file from the build, which could cause a failure (I experienced one on the last level, which dumped me to the menu instead of the mansion). In general, I’ll continue testing and try to reduce the game’s size.
That’s about it. Stay tuned for updates, and feel free to share your suggestions.
