A Game About Penguins changes
Greetings, my cherished penguins! It’s your host, Alican, now strutting around as an in-game celebrity.
No joke - I’ve officially joined the island as an NPC! Come find me and say Hi. Right now, I’m just here to chat, but in the full release, I’ll have quests for you too. Don’t let me wander the island alone!
Since the last devlog, we’ve been busy sliding around the island, breaking things for testing, and acting like it was all intentional. The good news is the game keeps getting better and feels more alive with every update.
DEMO launches February 13, 2026
This version is a focused slice of the current game and shows the direction we’re heading, while keeping some content exclusive to the full release.
All NPCs are present on the island, but only the Village Chief, Vaeluth, and İsmail Abi offer quests in the demo. Quick Hop, Hopster, Climb Up, and Chess are playable, while the remaining arcade games and minigames are reserved for the full version. You can catch 40 fish species and access full customization at the market, though only items below level 30 are available in this build.
Underwater
The underwater area isn’t just a placeholder anymore. We’ve added new spots to explore under the sea, making the island feel more exciting and future quests more meaningful. And yes, there are underwater plants now. It’s cozy down there - unless you get lost.
The Arcade Salon & Nam-Nam
A game inside a game? Yes, that’s exactly what A Game About Penguins is all about.
We’ve added an arcade salon where you can spend your hard-earned coins in the best way possible - by losing them right away. Not every arcade game is active in the demo yet, but the full version will have six to play.
Our diner, Nam-Nam, brings minigames together as a social hub. Some new ones are just previews for now, but the ones you can play are ready for you and your friends to enjoy - or cause some chaos. It’s up to you.
New NPCs
There are more NPCs on the island than ever before. Not all questlines are available in the demo, but you can still talk and interact with them. Please visit them - they get lonely. I know, because I’m one of them now.
Deeper Customization
Customization has expanded a lot. Now you can personalize your penguin with more details like hair, backpacks, glasses, shoes, and more. You’ll need to earn some money, but it’s worth it. Please share your penguins on Steam or in our Discord - I want to see the wild ones too.
Small Stuff (That Actually Matters)
We’ve also worked on optimization, bug fixes, UI improvements, and general polish. I won’t list every change here because I value your time, not because I’m a lazy penguin. Definitely not.
If you disagree, you can now literally slap me in the game. Just don’t spam it - we might have added cooldowns. Sorry.
Now I have an important question for you: What do you want to see next? Please let us know.
As always - With LOVE,
Your host, Alican
