Your Painting, Sir changes
Thank you
Thank you all for playing the demo of Your Painting, Sir! When you work on a game for so long, you get desensitized to it, and you're not sure how new players will react when they play it for the first time. It's been great to see that so many people love the game! I'm also happy to reveal that we've reached the milestone of 25k wishlists! It has been far beyond our expectations.
Feedback
A special thank you to everyone who took the time to leave a review and/or fill out the feedback form. What surprised us were the many positive comments left by you all, telling us how much you liked the game, how you can't wait to play the full version, and offering words of encouragement and wishing us luck with the development. It has been heartwarming to read.
But we've also received a lot of feedback, ideas, and honest criticism. It's because of this that Your Painting, Sir will grow into an even better game than we originally had in mind. By reading your feedback, we now have a better understanding of how we should continue developing this game.
Originally, we planned to participate in the current Steam Next Fest, but we already received so much feedback, and there's still so much left for us to do, that we felt it would be better to go with the upcoming October edition. By then, we will have a far more polished demo to present.
Issues
Among the vast amount of feedback, there were two issues that came up frequently. The first is the lack of creativity allowed when recreating a painting. Currently, the only solutions accepted are the ones we, the developers, came up with. But many of you want your own creative solutions to work as well. This makes sense, considering the creative freedom you are given in our game. Our assumption that the Sandbox mode would cover this need, was naive. The second common concern was the possibility of the game becoming repetitive or growing stale over time. We understand that players would like some variety beyond the main gameplay loop.
We have ideas on how to tackle both of these issues, which we will explore in the following months. We would love to tell you the ideas we have planned, but want to make sure they are ideas worth implementing. We don't want to make false promises, but know that we will do our best to improve the game regarding these issues.
And these are only two items on our long list of issues to work on, based on your feedback. Some of them we have already solved. For example, we have added color to the sketches and hidden the cursor when you grab a small cutout. A lot has already improved since the first version of the demo.
Back to work
After two weeks of improving the demo, it's time for us to properly get back to work on the game. Thank you for your patience and support! Your excitement makes developing Your Painting, Sir much more fun and motivating. Don't forget to join the Discord, where we'll occasionally share progress, and where you can share your silly collage art.
