Praise the Old Gods, an update for Worship is coming today!

With a couple days late of our roadmap schedule, we’re happy to release the Quality of Life update for Worship on Steam today!

This post is here to highlight the newest features we’ve included in Worship to make your life easier, list the bugs we’ve fixed and give you bits and pieces on the content we’re also working on for the next updates.

Input Rebinds

A popular request we got from players since the early access launch was the ability to rebind actions to different inputs. The wait is finally over, you will now be able to change your controls on keyboard & mouse and on controller.

You’ll find the input rebind menu in the Options of the game.

Better resolution support

Since launch, we had some restrictions on the proper support for different resolutions and aspect ratio, including widescreen support. This update now fixes these issues and you can now enjoy Worship on your wide monitors and with the right aspect ratio on Steam Deck!

As for every piece of content, features or changes we add to Worship during the early access development, we might have missed something. If you notice anything weird on the way Worship looks on your monitor, please let us know on the Steam forums or directly on Discord.

Wind shader

Speaking of how Worship looks, we had a wind effect for the trees and grass on the back burner for years now. The Quality of Life update launching today also includes these new visual effects to elevate the various devastated warzones meditative environments of Worship.

Skippable cutscenes

Okay to be fair we mainly did this one to make our lives easier rather than it being requested by the community, but we’ve added the option to skip Test of Faith cutscenes if you want to immediately jump into the action. After seeing these cutscenes for the thousandth of times, we figured that introducing this feature would be well worth the time (even though the hand drawn animation still slaps).

Bugfixes

Finally, nothing adds more quality of life to a game session than not encountering bugs, so a lot of our time for this update was focused on fixing bugs in Worship. Here’s a list of the most significant issues that we fixed in the latest update:

  • Followers will not start attacking bells and other random buildings after destroying a reward chest

  • Relics will spawn the correct amount of Followers when banked after reloading a game more than once

  • Fixed an issue where the thorn brambles were not applying damage properly during the second Test of Faith

  • Fixed multiple collider issues related to flexible content in the world generation

  • Fixed multiple art assets floating in the air

  • The sculpting block encounter will always sculpt the god currently being worshipped

  • Upon reloading a save file, the completed encounters are now more representative of the completed stage in game and on the map

  • Tweaked and made some changes on the the flip turtle encounter so it is more reliable and easier to complete

  • Summons will no longer become invincible and non-functional after disengaging enemies

  • Recall will no longer get stuck in loop when playing with controller

  • Fixed a multitude of level art assets not dissolving when the cultist is standing behind them.

  • Fixed some grammatical errors in tutorial and ability descriptions

  • Fixed some audio issues in the City part of the Shattered Plateau

  • You can no longer kill the cultist by using the cantrip ability with a damage amplifier upgrade

  • Enemies will no longer randomly get stuck in idle animations when disengaging combat

  • Fixed an issue with the Sealing completion of the Sealed Titan encounter

  • Fixed multiple issues causing the Cultist to jump in the air

  • Fixed an issue causing the cultist get stuck in the grabbing animation with no followers in hands

  • Fixed some visual issues with the blood absorb VFX on drinkables

  • Blood absorption is now more reactive and responsive than before, making it a lot easier to quickly absorb blood spots or erase a small portion of a blood symbol

  • Fixed an issue related to save files and tutorial

  • Dark modes now apply to all in-game UIs uniformly

  • Lore interactible in horror lair no longer spawn a second time after completion

  • Fixed frogs allies erratic behaviour due to mishandled obstacle avoidance

  • Fixed mirror utility building not rewarding devotion

  • Adjusted huge delay before game over screen appeared after death

  • Fixed enemy animation sometime being accelerated

  • Fixed bell being able to be inflicted status effect

  • Fixed some spells being unable to damage grim monolith

  • Fixed issue with Cardinal NPC sometimes being targeted by followers

  • Fixed an issue with utility building socket in upgrade UI

  • Fixed an issue with sealed titan sometimes playing its sealed animation twice

Issues we are currently working on

Here’s the list of the issues we’re currently working on. Most of them are difficult to reproduce and we’ve tried some trouble to properly find steps to reproduce them. If anyone encounters them during their playthrough, please let us know through the bug report form or on the Steam discussion boards:

  • We've stumbled on a bug where your "following" follower count is higher than the total amount of followers. We have yet to find a reliable way to reproduce this and we've observe this can make some objects impossible to interact with. If you encounter this bug, a save and reload should fix the problem until we find a fix.

  • During combat, the object lifted by a follower can fall at the follower’s feet, being dragged on the ground, hiding the followers behind it. We’ve tried a bunch of different fixes for this issue, but we’ve been seeing it again from time to time.

  • We've still encountered a few times where an object can no longer be lifted by followers if they get knock down when they are trying to lift the object and waiting for another followers to join them.

  • Ritual shapes recognition sometimes doesn't register right, more specifically with the Tribute and the Summon Goopling ritual shapes. Erasing part or all the ritual shape should fix the issue until we introduce a more relevant solution

  • Enemies sometimes don’t have their health bar appearing over their head when fighting. We had a lot of improvement with this issue, but it can still happens on enemies fighting other factions when loaded into the game.

These issues are all somewhat annoying but also difficult to reproduce. Since most of them do not completely ruin the player experience, we've decided shipping the update and push a hot fix patch once we get more information on these bugs would be an adequate plan of action for the moment. Considering most of these bugs are related to core system of Worship, such as followers and rituals, finding "quick fix" often means introducing new bugs, but all of those issues have potential solution we will be trying in the next few days.

What’s next

Alongside the Quality of Life improvement update, most of our team have been working on new content and features for future updates. As you may have seen in our previous posts, we’re currently working on a new zone to add to the gameplay loop and, as you know, each zone includes a Test of Faith to complete. Also, we’ve been working on new enemies, new upgrades, God variants and new encounters to add to your future runs. In the coming weeks, expect some news from us regarding our plans for the launch of Worship 1.0.

Another thing we’re actively working on is to rethink some of our gameplay systems based on feedback and observations we made during playtests. Developing with the full release in mind, we want to make sure we give ourselves the tools to balance Worship and make it a stimulating experience with different strategies viable. At the moment, we’re looking at the power levels of Followers and the commitment of casting rituals during combat. We’re currently testing different iterations on those systems to see if we find something that gives us relevant tools for game balance in the long run.

Expect news from us in the next few weeks, until then, stay safe out there!
