๐Ÿˆถ New Learning Mode: Top 110 Kanji (Japanese)

We have added a brand-new learning mode to the Japanese and Polyglot versions of WonderLang: Top 110 Kanji Mode.

This mode sits alongside the existing options and gives you a new way to gradually transition into kanji.

Three reading modes are now available

When starting a new game (and at any time in the settings), you can choose between:

  • Kana only (no kanji at all)

  • Top 110 Kanji (new)

  • Full kanji

What is Top 110 Kanji Mode?

In this mode, only the 110 most common kanji in the Japanese language are displayed in kanji form. All other words remain written in kana.

This allows you to:

  • Learn kanji progressively without being overwhelmed

  • Focus on the most useful characters first

  • Keep the game readable at all times

You can also enable furigana (small kana above kanji) to help with pronunciation and reading.

Flexible and optional

  • This mode is completely optional

  • You can select it when starting a new game

  • You can switch modes at any time in the settings, even mid-playthrough

Practice kanji as you encounter them

When a new kanji appears in dialogue:

  • You can practice drawing it directly on screen

  • Each kanji includes animated stroke order guides

  • Strokes are shown step by step to help you learn correct writing order

This makes kanji learning active and visual, rather than passive memorization.

๐Ÿ† New Optional Challenge: The Search for the 110 Gnomes

We also added a new optional side quest: The Search for the 110 Gnomes.

Hidden throughout WonderLang, these gnomes can be found across the world. Report them to the Gnome King in the first village, near the old castle.

How this quest adapts to your language:

  • If you are learning Japanese in Top 110 Kanji Mode โ†’ Gnomes will teach you kanji and help reinforce what you have learned

  • If you are learning another language โ†’ Gnomes will help you review words you previously got wrong during combat

This quest is fully optional, but offers an extra layer of practice and exploration.
