If you played in The Grove, didn't get a new record and exited the game without buying anything in the tree or making any change to your warband or playing any non Grove level etc it wouldn't trigger a save.

Super sorry about this one!

It's one of those things that is literally caused by extra one character (a tab to be specific) and wasn't caught in testing since almost everything you do trigger a save.

Patch 1.0.4:

  • Fixes bug where a save wasn't properly triggered after playing The Grove and not getting a new record.
