Devlog #01: Enhancements and Accessibility in Whimside

In these logs, I'll share the latest updates, insights, and behind-the-scenes looks at the development of Whimside. Enhancing Whimling Ownership

In our initial alpha release, we noticed that collecting Whimlings wasn't as engaging as we had hoped. While our upcoming achievement and collection feature promises to add more depth to this aspect, I've taken your feedback to heart and agree that we missed a crucial element of the collecting experience—forming a bond with these adorable creatures.

To address this, I'm excited to introduce several new features that will deepen your connection with your Whimlings:

• Renaming: Personalize your Whimlings by giving them names.

• Favoriting: Mark your favorite Whimlings to easily find and interact with them.

• Locking: Secure your cherished Whimlings against accidental deletion.

• Petting: Interact with your Whimlings in your garden to increase their affection.

• RemovedCrystal ProductionRemoved the Generator Wheel. Now, Whimlings in your garden will produce Crystals, with the output influenced by their rarity and affection level.

• These updates aim to make each Whimling feel more like a personal companion, enhancing the joy and satisfaction of collecting.

Advancing Accessibility

We've also made significant strides in improving game accessibility: Font Update: We've transitioned from a pixel art font to Noto Sans. This change not only improves readability but also supports multiple languages, facilitating easier game localization. Enhanced Tooltips: Continuous improvements in tooltips are being implemented to provide clearer guidance throughout the game. While I may consider reintroducing pixel fonts as an alternative in the future, our primary focus remains on ensuring that the game is accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Special thanks to Artie for their valuable insights on accessibility issues in Whimside, and for providing resources that have greatly aided our efforts to enhance accessibility throughout the game.
