Ave Aspirants!
Today the team and I bring you Preview #1 on the next update - we're doing another (regular) update to celebrate the anniversary of the game, as every year so far.
Before we take a look, here is some important news about Aegic Entertainment & We Who Are About To Die!
BIG NEWS: 1.0 is coming!
First - over the summer I've hired 2 new full time devs, we're now 4 full time devs working @Aegic on We Who Are About To Die. Production has picked up!
This is partially in preparation for the 1.0 release of We Who Are About To Die and for whatever new game after we'll make. (thinking far ahead!)
This next update will be v0.85. It's pretty big but I don't quite want to call it a Major Update. I decided that the update after will (almost certainly) be 1.0. It's going to be a while before 1.0 is ready, even with 4 devs now, so I felt we should definitely release some cool stuff we've been working on in the form of this v0.85 so the game stays active and keeps improving.
Why is it going to be a while before 1.0? Well I can't say much yet - but there's at least one fundamental new feature planned for 1.0 (it's not multiplayer!). This feature adds an entire new phase to the game and to say that it's a lot of work and a big overhaul is putting it lightly.
Throughout this early access I've tried to stay bold and fearless with all the overhauls and design decisions, trying to improve the game to its best form, no matter how challenging or daunting, and that won't change for 1.0.
It's not just that though, we're of course also going to overhaul existing parts of the game, add a ton of content and perhaps scariest of all: debug and polish it all up to standard.
All of those are huge tasks, so bear with me - with Aegic - as we try to work towards the best 1.0 possible. :) Just wanted to let you know... it's coming.
Crest physics... mmmm...
On to v0.85
v0.85 is primarily a content update, but it contains a big overhaul too, I'll talk about that in Preview #2.
Today let's take a look at some new content -
Item Attributes
A few updates ago we introduced the concept of "Properties"- a list of tags at the bottom of each item. This was only used to define the item culture (primarily for the Veteran Aspirant) and we didn't really build it out properly. That changes with v0.85!
In this update, properties are renamed Attributes, and every item has been assigned logical attributes. These range from Cultures (Dormorii, Myrodon, Hanian, Terantian, Lophosi, Owakhan, Linolian) to descriptors like Extravagant (fancy show-offy stuff), Ornate (expensive looking), Military (practical military gear), Outlaw (illegal or bandit-y items), Scrappy (junky rusty weapons), and Civilian (Pickaxes, Pans, Spades..)
Items can have any number of attributes - but they don't do anything on their own.
New Traits
This update will have a bunch new character traits, a bunch of which are centered around these attributes. Here's 5 examples. (I'll show a few more in Preview #2)
Eclectic is a major positive trait that gives you bonus gold every week based on the variety you have - +100 G for each unique attribute! You'll want a wild variety of stuff. This includes auxiliary inventory items, so you have a
