Watchstander: COLREGS/Rules of the Road Training Administrator changes
Watchstander: COLREGS Training Administrator – Now in Early Access
We’re excited to introduce a new standalone edition of Watchstander designed specifically for studying and mastering the International and Inland Rules of the Road.
This version focuses entirely on structured training, exam flow, and long-term improvement without the full bridge simulation layer.
What This Edition Offers
Randomized study and exam modes • Test sizes ranging from 10 to 400 questions • NAVDORM-style monthly 20-question assessments • Promotion tests with progression from ENS to CAPT • Detailed answer review and SWO Log history • Certificate printing and full test report output • Minimalist layout for clear, distraction-free study • Optional focus music for longer sessions
All question material is derived from the Navigation Rules & Regulations Handbook (2024) and test structures described in the Surface Force NAVDORM (CNSP 3530.4 Series).
Why a Dedicated COLREGS Edition?
The full Watchstander simulator includes radar, ship-handling, and contact management. Many players (and friends) requested a version focused solely on Rules of the Road/COLREGS. Less money required, a space to study, practice, and track progress without the complexity of bridge systems.
This edition delivers that experience.
Early Access Goals
During Early Access, we’ll be focusing on:
Expanding and refining the question bank • Improving test review and certificate options • Enhancing accessibility and clarity in the interface • Adding user-requested study features • Continuing to align formats with real-world qualification workflows
Your feedback will guide future improvements and help refine the training environment.
Thank You
Thank you for supporting Watchstander and for helping shape tools that make learning more accessible.
This project is specifically designed to assist mariners, officers, and students who want a structured and repeatable way to practice Rules of the Road that is not some random app where you can not provide feedback to make it better.
If you try the COLREGS training edition, we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Fair winds and following seas. ⚓
