Update: Persistence & POI Expansion

This update focuses on expanding System content, improving persistence, and fixing long-standing gameplay issues across scanning, shields, and ship systems.

🌌 New Content & Exploration

  • Added 5 Asteroid Field POIs (System One now populated with locations - Fleshing out in progress)

  • Expanded Demo Area slightly

  • Added new starting task: Scan Plasma Vents

  • Updated POI layouts across multiple systems

  • Adjusted System Zero layout

🔍 Scanning & UI Improvements

  • Optimized the Scanning System

  • Scan Locator now detects:

    • Collectibles

    • Tractor targets

    • Mineables

    • Salvage

  • Added Area Force Field scan information

  • Added response feedback when Force Fields are disabled

  • Fixed UI Item Analysis progress bar

🛰️ Persistence System Overhaul

  • Major improvements to POI Persistence System

    • Now supports sub-layer tracking

  • NPC ships now persist in POIs

  • Destroyed turrets remain destroyed

  • Updated start area (Section 2/5) to use new persistence system

🚢 Ship & Systems Improvements

  • Ship now remembers engine on/off state

  • Fixed issue where ship needed to be turned on twice after reinstalling PowerCore

  • Prevented duplicate schematic pickups

🛡️ Shields & Combat

  • Fixed bug where Shield Modules would not charge

  • General Shield System improvements

  • Fixed issue where turrets were not firing at player ships

  • Added debug tools to identify turret targeting issues

🌌Salvage & World Interaction

  • Salvageable wrecks updated

  • Wrecks are now tractorable

  • Fixed Mining/Salvaging/Collecting from dropping blank items

  • Fixed Skimmer respawn bug (no more infinite swarms 👀)

📦 Fixes & Quality of Life

  • Fixed canister issues:

    • Incorrect final position tracking

    • Ejection failing when UI closed early

  • Added warning when both joystick and keyboard controls are disabled

  • Improved object spawning issues (Secret Stuff)

  • Fixed New Asteroid Field POI issue Fixed issue where modules could be lost when equipping into full slots

🧪 Ongoing Work

  • POI content still Work In Progress

  • Continued improvements to persistence, combat, and system balance

  • Making good progress to completing system 1 for early access

    This update expands System One with new POIs while streamlining persistence. Scanning, shields, and ship systems have been improved, alongside numerous bug fixes to stabilize core gameplay.
