His father taught Aziz to see the true value of goods behind a seller’s feigned importance, to recognize lies hidden in excessive enthusiasm, and to read intentions through the slightest gestures. “Everything has its price. To know its true value, you need an honest bargain.” It was a principle Aziz learned alongside reading, writing, and arithmetic.
