Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate changes
Hey Time Travelers,
With the wide and varied world of PCVR, it can be tricky to know how to get things running smoothly. While it’s tempting to crank every setting to Ultra and max out your resolution, remember that Wanderer is a more visually demanding experience than most typical VR games.
This page is a living guide to help you get the best Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate experience on your system. From our testing, the game performs well across a wide range of HMDs and setups, but there are always things to improve and uncover. We’ll continue to update it as we expand headset support, gather feedback, and roll out new improvements.
IF THE ANSWERS YOU NEED CANNOT BE FOUND HERE, CHAT WITH US ON OUR DISCORD :
PAUSE MENU ACCESS :
If running the OpenXR runtime / SteamVR environment the pause menu will be accessed via pushing and holding 'X' or left 'A'. For those running the Oculus runtime you can use the standard menu button.
PERFORMANCE STUGGLING - HERE IS A TIP :
We've had lot's of feedback that seems to be shadow quality having an enormous impact compared to other graphical settings. If you are struggling to play or experiencing stuttering we recommend the following.
Shadows set to low.
Reports suggest you can run almost everything else at high / ultra (but experiment to see how you go).
LINK CABLE / QUEST PLAYERS :
For the best performance, use the Oculus runtime instead of OpenXR — it uses less VRAM, which is the main bottleneck when playing via Link. If you are still having trouble try the OpenXR runtime.
If your GPU has less than 12 GB VRAM, avoid Ultra settings. Stick to Medium–High and enable TSR with a lower resolution (set in the Graphics panel). Note: TSR may slightly blur menu text, but the game world will still look great.
Using the Oculus runtime also provides improved haptics support.
For smoother performance, follow Oculus’ recommended settings - 72 Hz and default resolution.
Players with high-end GPUs (e.g., RTX 4090) can increase resolution in the Graphics menu and optionally switch to TAA or no AA, depending on preference.
WIRELESS QUEST / PICO PLAYERS :
For the best results, use Virtual Desktop (VD) with the VDXR runtime and experiment with settings to balance clarity and performance.
Steam Link: The time travel sequences can often cause SteamLink disconnects.. Currently VD is a much smoother experience.
Air Link: Untested but not recommended. Use VD for a smoother experience.
INDEX / BIGSCREEN BEYOND etc :
Valve Index is fully supported, though full finger tracking is not yet implemented. Custom bindings, in-game tutorials, and UI prompts for Knuckles controllers are all supported.
Index recommendation relative to finding it hard to throw and grip things - Go into bindings and swap the grip press to grip touch function. We will look into this further to see if we can make this default if it generally feels better.
VRAM usage tends to be less demanding on Index, allowing for higher graphical settings than on Quest devices. Most systems with GPUs like the RTX 3080 or above should run on High or Ultra.
Niche headsets such as Bigscreen Beyond, Pimax, and others remain untested. We welcome your feedback and reports via Discord to help us better understand compatibility, performance, and demand.
PLAYSTATION VR 2
PlayStation VR2 support is partially tested - the game should run, but may require custom binding adjustments.
We strongly recommend playing the demo first to confirm compatibility and ensure your headset setup works as expected.
We welcome your feedback and reports via Discord to help us better understand compatibility, performance, and demand.
HTC VIVE
Vive Wands are currently unsupported. We haven’t yet had the time or resources to fully explore Vive compatibility, but ideally want to investigate this further in future updates.
We strongly recommend playing the demo first to confirm compatibility and ensure your headset setup works as expected.
We welcome your feedback and reports via Discord to help us better understand compatibility, performance, and demand.
WINDOWS MR (REVERB etc)
Currently, not officially supported on Windows 11. Some players have reported smooth performance and support on Windows 10, but results may vary.
We strongly recommend playing the demo first to confirm compatibility and ensure your headset setup works as expected.
We welcome your feedback and reports via Discord to help us better understand compatibility, performance, and demand.

HDR / COLORSPACE
At this moment in time it is recommended that players turn OFF HDR on any monitors before starting the game or restart the game after switching HDR OFF. There are some color-space conflicts we are working through and looking to resolve to help with this.
