addedHello Voyagers! Stephiroth reporting in. We are SO close to the release of our new update, now titled Explore the Deep ! Today we wanted to share a major re-work to one of our existing features that is coming in our next update. We are re-working how our Imbuement System works, and we believe it’ll provide a lot of exciting and fun customization options for players!
changed💬What is the Imbuement System? In the current game, at level 9 players unlock the Imbuing Bench. This magical station allows players to use an item, Powerstones , to increase the stats of specific items - namely weapons (weapon damage), and armor (defense). Players can upgrade these 2 times, and then they are done and expected to progress to the next tier of equipment. The main purpose of this system in its current form was to help bridge the power gap between biomes and allow for a little more powering up while waiting to be able to make the next tier of equipment.
added💬What is the Imbuement System? But there was an opportunity to improve this system and add a lot of things players have been asking for!
changed🤔Why change this systemWe wanted to expand the system to allow players to upgrade almost any type of gear, and make more meaningful, fun and exciting choices about how to upgrade their items. And this system is something we can continue to expand in future updates to give players more exciting ways to upgrade their gear!
addedIntroducing… VestigesWe are introducing a new type of item: Vestiges. Vestiges are gems that can be crafted using Powerstones and other materials found within the biomes, like Volatile Glands , Glowstone , Deepling Bones and more. Vestiges can also be found in magical chests throughout the world!
changedHow do they work? There will be different types of Vestiges that can apply to gathering tools (like the Axe or Mining Pick), weapons (like Bows or Swords), exploration tools (like the skimmer and glider) or armor.

💬What is the Imbuement System?

In the current game, at level 9 players unlock the Imbuing Bench. This magical station allows players to use an item, Powerstones, to increase the stats of specific items - namely weapons (weapon damage), and armor (defense). Players can upgrade these 2 times, and then they are done and expected to progress to the next tier of equipment. The main purpose of this system in its current form was to help bridge the power gap between biomes and allow for a little more powering up while waiting to be able to make the next tier of equipment.

But there was an opportunity to improve this system and add a lot of things players have been asking for!

🤔Why change this system

Steam post imageAs it currently stands, this system is very flat – it is very easy to be able to imbue items, and if you accumulate enough materials over time you can immediately imbue them and then forget about the system entirely. Players have also been requesting that other types of items like the Skimmer, Glider and gathering tools could be imbued as well, but the current system does not support that.

We wanted to expand the system to allow players to upgrade almost any type of gear, and make more meaningful, fun and exciting choices about how to upgrade their items. And this system is something we can continue to expand in future updates to give players more exciting ways to upgrade their gear!

💎So what changed?

Based on feedback we’ve received during Early Access and our own developers' hopes about what types of power ups and upgrades we could offer, we’ve done a major overhaul of the imbuement system.

Introducing… Vestiges

We are introducing a new type of item: Vestiges. Vestiges are gems that can be crafted using Powerstones and other materials found within the biomes, like Volatile Glands, Glowstone, Deepling Bones and more. Vestiges can also be found in magical chests throughout the world!

How do they work?

There will be different types of Vestiges that can apply to gathering tools (like the Axe or Mining Pick), weapons (like Bows or Swords), exploration tools (like the skimmer and glider) or armor.

Vestiges can be crafted at the Imbuing Bench and fused with the equipment to imbue it with new power. Once fused, the Vestiges are consumed - so if you want to imbue all of your gear, you’ll need to craft more. Vestiges can apply effects like increased skimmer speed, greater attack damage, longer parry windows and much more! We are excited for players to be able to customize their equipment to their playstyle, and be able to continue powering up throughout the course of the game. We believe this system will offer a much wider range of customization and create new opportunities to craft gear around things like weapon playstyles and spirit companions.
