changedHow It WorksVisseron Idle has only recently supported drop-in translation files, and since then sharing one meant posting a raw JSON file on Discord or a forum. That's still fine, but finally players and translators can use the Steam Workshop. Subscribe to a translation on the Workshop and it's picked up automatically on your next launch. No manual file copying required. This works in-game through the Steam overlay as well! You just have to re-open the language menu for it to show.
changedGet the TemplateWe've published the base English file as a Workshop item to use as your starting point: enUS.json - Translation Template Copy it, rename it to your language's code (e.g. frFR.json, deDE.json), and translate the string values - never the keys. A partial translation is always safe to ship; anything you don't translate falls back to English automatically.
addedPublishing Your Own TranslationOnce you've translated the file, publish it as a new Workshop item of your own so others can subscribe to it. Full instructions - file format, versioning, and how to keep a translation in sync as the game updates - are included alongside the template, or check the in-game README_Localization.txt.
changedBonus: Ye Olde EnglishFor anyone who wants their idle game to sound like a D&D tavern keeper, there's also a tongue-in-cheek "Old English" translation up on the Workshop now - thee, thou, prithee, and all. Not a serious localization, just a fun one. Old English (Bard Mode) on the Workshop Subscribe, then select "OldEnglish" from the Language panel to try it out.

Steam Workshop Translations Are Here

How It Works

Visseron Idle has only recently supported drop-in translation files, and since then sharing one meant posting a raw JSON file on Discord or a forum. That's still fine, but finally players and translators can use the Steam Workshop. Subscribe to a translation on the Workshop and it's picked up automatically on your next launch. No manual file copying required. This works in-game through the Steam overlay as well! You just have to re-open the language menu for it to show.

Get the Template

We've published the base English file as a Workshop item to use as your starting point: enUS.json - Translation Template Copy it, rename it to your language's code (e.g. frFR.json, deDE.json), and translate the string values - never the keys. A partial translation is always safe to ship; anything you don't translate falls back to English automatically.

Publishing Your Own Translation

Once you've translated the file, publish it as a new Workshop item of your own so others can subscribe to it. Full instructions - file format, versioning, and how to keep a translation in sync as the game updates - are included alongside the template, or check the in-game README_Localization.txt.

Bonus: Ye Olde English

For anyone who wants their idle game to sound like a D&D tavern keeper, there's also a tongue-in-cheek "Old English" translation up on the Workshop now - thee, thou, prithee, and all. Not a serious localization, just a fun one. Old English (Bard Mode) on the Workshop Subscribe, then select "OldEnglish" from the Language panel to try it out.

Thanks

Huge thanks to everyone who's already been translating unofficially and sharing files by hand - this makes it a lot easier for the next translator, and for players to find your work.

Thanks for playing! -- Visseron Games
