Verdant changes
Hey Sprouts! 🌿
The announcement trailer for our upcoming survival game Verdant just released at the Wholesome Snack Showcase!
We are thrilled to lift the curtain on this project by sharing our vision for the game and the world you will get to explore!
Rethinking the Survival Genre
With Verdant, we’re shifting the focus from HUD to human experience. Instead of meters, your body tells you what’s going on: a growling stomach that might attract wildlife, blurred vision when exhaustion kicks in, and senses warping when stress rises. Our goal is for the world to feel immersive, not overwhelming; a mix of atmospheric exploration and smart decision-making.
We’ll also give you space to enjoy the view… because the apocalypse can be beautiful.
Meet Sprout: A Catalyst of Life and Death
You begin your journey as Sprout, a young adult trying to understand his place in the world. He has a mystical and unique mutation that gives him the power to take and give life essence, shaping the world around him with every choice.
Sprout’s journey will grow into an epic adventure of survival and mystery as he seeks to understand the cause and purpose behind his mutation.
Combat as a Last Resort
Weapons are rare and violence is a dangerous, inconvenient solution. Your focus is on survival. The world reacts to how you move through it. Walk loudly, ignore your needs, or rush through the wilds, and danger will notice. Move thoughtfully and the world feels different. The dynamic between the way you play and how the environment responds is one of our key design philosophies.
Travel With Purpose
Sprout’s motorbike is one of our favourite elements of the game. Partly because it embodies the freedom and solitude he feels and because it helped us re-think the traversal experience.
In Verdant, the act of traveling matters. We decided that rather than fast traveling, we would like players to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. The roads, detours, and quiet discoveries along the way all shape the experience.
Find out More Soon!
Verdant grew out of our shared nostalgia, love for atmospheric worlds, and desire to let players tell their own stories in an apocalyptic playground.
We’re excited to show you what we have been working on and can’t wait to share more with you soon! There’s lots to talk about including additional mechanics like upgrade systems and camps, as well as our 80s-inspired worldbuilding.
We’d love it if you joined our Discord server to share your thoughts about the trailer! Thank you for following along and welcome to the overgrown world of Verdant. 🌿♥️
