Venusville changes
The Atmos Factory is one of the most important buildings in the colony — and also one of the very first buildings ever created for the game.
But over time… it started to show its age.
Next to many of the newer structures, the old Atmos Factory simply didn’t hold up visually anymore (as some of you already pointed out 😉). So I decided it was time for a redesign.
There was also another issue: the building was originally designed as a standalone structure, inspired by traditional mining facilities that operate far away from colonies.
But gameplay-wise, that no longer made much sense.
The old design couldn’t properly connect to domes or airlocks. It was also difficult to see what was happening inside the building or whether workers and robots were actively operating there.
So the Atmos Factory has now been completely reworked.
🏗️ What Changed?
🔹 New Glass Dome Top The factory now features a transparent dome section, making the interior visible and bringing it visually closer to the rest of the colony architecture.
🔹 Proper Colony Integration The structure has been extended to the edge of the tile, allowing seamless attachment to domes and airlocks.
🔹 Interior vs Exterior Contrast I wanted the inside to feel clean, advanced, and seamless — matching the sci-fi style of the habitation domes — while the exterior remains industrial, heavy, and filled with pipes, tanks, and machinery as before.
🔹 Fully Internal Operation Produced resources were moved from the outside to the inside of the building, meaning workers no longer need to leave the safety of the domes to pick them up.
Overall, the new design feels much more integrated into the colony while still preserving the industrial identity of the Atmos Factory.
