Attention, fighters, warriors, and legends-in-the-making — we are excited to announce that the beta of the Unmatched: Digital Edition relaunch is coming to Steam on July 29th!

In battle, there are no equals. The tabletop version of Unmatched, published by Restoration Games, is an award-winning asymmetric miniature skirmish game that pits the most unlikely heroes against each other in clashes for the ages. What if King Arthur and Merlin clashed with Medusa and her harpies? What if Sinbad voyaged across the sea to confront Alice and the Jabberwock? What tricks does Little Red have up her sleeve when facing the mighty Beowulf?

The Dire Wolf relaunch of Unmatched: Digital Edition is a new version of the game built from the ground up with fluid animations that bring the iconic miniatures and tabletop artwork to life. New features include an updated tutorial, new CPU opponents, and a diverse Challenge system, with more to come in the future!

Players on Steam will be able to jump into this beta version of Unmatched on July 29th, to be followed by a full cross-platform release in the coming months. During that time, we’ll be interested in hearing your feedback! The beta period is a time for you to let us know what’s working and what could be improved. Notice any bugs or issues? What about the original version of Unmatched: Digital Edition?

The original Unmatched

Digital Edition launched in 2023, and is currently available on Steam, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. Dire Wolf took over development of the game, and we’ve been hard at work rebuilding the game from the ground up.

Our version of Unmatched

Digital Edition will replace the one that currently exists at no extra cost to existing players, and will release first on Steam on July 29th, with Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch to follow later.

Will I have to repurchase or redownload the game if I already own Unmatched: Digital Edition?

No. The new version of Unmatched: Digital Edition will arrive as a patch update to the existing version. If you’ve already bought the game, you will not need to repurchase it. You’ll simply open the app and be prompted for an update.

How will the new version of Unmatched: Digital Edition differ from the previous one?

As a version of the game that has been rebuilt from scratch, players can expect to be greeted with a visual overhauI, with a revamped UI, more immersive battlefields, and animated 3D models that come to life on the battlefield! Other features, such as an updated tutorial experience, an action log, and a brand new Challenges mode will also be included in the new client.

What battlefields and heroes will the new version of Unmatched: Digital Edition launch with?

At the time of launch, all of the heroes and battlefields currently available in the existing version will be present in the Dire Wolf relaunch of Unmatched: Digital Edition, broken down as follows:

Base Game

• Heroes: Sinbad, Medusa, King Arthur, Alice, Little Red, Beowulf

• Battlefields: Marmoreal, Sarpedon, Heorot

Cobble & Fog Expansion

Will I keep any heroes and battlefields I’ve already purchased?

Yes. Although the DLC heroes and battlefields listed above will now be restructured as bundled packs going forward, you will retain ownership of any character and/or battlefields that you’ve already paid for.

What will happen to the skins I’ve purchased?

Paid Skins will not be included in the relaunch of Unmatched Digital at the time of release. However, we are working on integrating Skins into the game, and when that point arrives, any players who previously have paid for Skins will be granted access accordingly at no extra charge.

When will the Dire Wolf relaunch of Unmatched: Digital Edition release on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch?

The Dire Wolf relaunch of Unmatched: Digital Edition will first be releasing on Steam in beta form on July 29th, with Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch versions to follow later. We are currently targeting a September launch for Android and iOS, with Nintendo Switch to follow as soon as possible after that. However, that window is subject to change.

Will crossplay work while the new version is live on Steam but not yet available on other platforms?

No. The Steam launch is a beta period, where we will be deploying the new version and keeping an eye out for any unexpected issues and player feedback, as we work hard to finish up the mobile versions. During that period, crossplay between Steam and other platforms will not be possible. However, once the new version of Unmatched: Digital Edition lands on other platforms, crossplay will once again be functional.

Will there be new content coming to Unmatched: Digital Edition in the future?

Yes! For starters, there will be new heroes and battlefields coming to the game. We are also planning additional feature updates to come at a later date, including Pass and Play, Ranked Mode, and Free for All.

Will the new version of Unmatched: Digital Edition be available in the same languages?

Yes, with a caveat – at the time of the Steam launch, the new version of Unmatched: Digital Edition will only be available in English. However, we will be implementing localization in the other (currently available) languages as soon as possible after release. We currently expect those languages to arrive after the Steam beta release, but before the mobile release.

Will I be able to use my Dire Wolf Account in the new version of Unmatched: Digital Edition?

Yes. As of the new update, Unmatched: Digital Edition will join the Dire Wolf ecosystem of games, which means that a Dire Wolf account will be used to play online, which can also be used across other Dire Wolf titles.

Will I have to make a Dire Wolf Account if I don’t already have one?

Yes, and no – just like with our other digital board game adaptations, a Dire Wolf account is not required for offline play. If you want to play versus AI games against bots and Challenge scenarios, you can do so without a DWD account. However, you will need to create a DWD account for online play if you do not already have one.
