addedAs a new Steam developer, the thousands of options and buttons and features and actions in the Steamworks backend can be very overwhelming, and it's easy to think you've done everything right only to realize you're missing something at the last moment. This whole experience has given me an appreciation for the people who post 5-minute trash games with no content, because at least they managed to create a header capsule in the exact right pixel dimensions to be accepted by the Steam store... It's serious work to get a game visible in the store!
changedI had an app for Trope Tales. This app's Steam store was approved, I had created both Windows and Mac depots, I had created test and default builds, I had configured installation info, I had set up all of the required info (system requirements, genres, tags, OS support, controller support, multiplayer support, content rating, etc)... I had Trope Tales ready to go , so I could hit the "release" button at any moment. The only issue was that the story wasn't finished, so I wasn't ready to hit the release button. No worries, I thought. I'll just make a "demo" package and release that!
addedA demo is a separate app from your main one! This meant I had to create a whole new (demo) app, set up a whole new collection of images, fill out the description, set up the OS support, set up controller support,... I had to set everything up again from scratch. Not that bad, though. Just took a couple of hours. But then... I had to submit it for review again.

Posting a quick update about the demo release (it IS coming soon, I swear!)

As a new Steam developer, the thousands of options and buttons and features and actions in the Steamworks backend can be very overwhelming, and it's easy to think you've done everything right only to realize you're missing something at the last moment. This whole experience has given me an appreciation for the people who post 5-minute trash games with no content, because at least they managed to create a header capsule in the exact right pixel dimensions to be accepted by the Steam store... It's serious work to get a game visible in the store!

I had an app for Trope Tales. This app's Steam store was approved, I had created both Windows and Mac depots, I had created test and default builds, I had configured installation info, I had set up all of the required info (system requirements, genres, tags, OS support, controller support, multiplayer support, content rating, etc)... No worries, I thought. I'll just make a "demo" package and release that!

So here's where I messed up:

A demo is a separate app from your main one! This meant I had to create a whole new (demo) app, set up a whole new collection of images, fill out the description, set up the OS support, set up controller support,... I had to set everything up again from scratch. Not that bad, though. Just took a couple of hours. But then... I had to submit it for review again.

So here we are... I have a demo build uploaded and ready to go, but my app is sitting in Steam review. The process can take up to 2 weeks, although I've heard it's usually done after 1. Whenever Steam review is complete, the demo will become available. Until then, I apologize for the delay!
