Oh, this is a dream come true for us. A fully professional Japanese version of Trolls vs Vikings: Reborn has been in the works for a while, and we’re very happy to say that it has now launched!
This is actually the first Megapop game ever to launch with a professionally made Japanese version, which makes this a pretty special milestone for us.
For this work we’ve partnered with the local publisher Locatch. Harry Inaba and his team have done a fantastic job faithfully adapting Trolls vs Vikings: Reborn for Japanese players. Locatch has extensive experience preparing games for the Japanese market, but this is one of their first titles as co-publisher, meaning they are not only handling localization, but supporting the game with distribution, and marketing.
We got Harry Inaba from Locatch to say some words “Working on Trolls vs Vikings, I had the privilege of handling the Japanese translation and LQA together with the students of my Game Translation School, and we were able to pour our hearts and souls into the Japanese version of Trolls vs Vikings: Reborn. It is a tremendous honor to bring this title, steeped in Nordic charm, to gaming audiences across Japan.
It may be a small step in the larger gaming ecosystem, but for us in Megapop this represents something bigger: an increasing focus on Asian markets and proper cultural localization. As longtime fans of Japanese gaming culture ourselves, we can honestly say: it was about time.
As some of you may have noticed from other announcements, an Asian focus is something happening across several Megapop projects, including on Life Below who launches May 26th.
To celebrate the launch, Trolls vs Vikings: Reborn has a Steam sale this week. The sale coincides with the Norwegian Games Festival on Steam, where you’ll find Trolls, other Megapop titles, and more than 170 Norwegian games on sale celebrating Norwegian game development. If you ever wanted to find a great Norwegian game this is the week!
