Game Director Update: 'Moving on up' content patch coming soon

Heya fine people, hope life is treating you well. It’s been a super busy period for us here at Megapop, with moving the company to shiny new offices, and developing a Steam demo on our upcoming city-builder ‘Life Below’

addedIt’s been a super busy period for us here at Megapop, with moving the company to shiny new offices, and developing a Steam demo on our upcoming city-builder ‘Life Below’ being key culprits. Both have been long in the coming, so good to get progress there. Thankfully, there is always something going on, and indeed so it is within Trolls Reborn.
addedAs far as new content we already know the next patch is called “Moving on up”. We have the first three levels done and tested now, and aim to make two more levels next week. As per player input one will be a very challenging one, he he, with the balance mantra being “if we can do it, so can you”. Look forward to feedback on that one!
addedIn this update we are playing around with a limited amount of units, with Buster and the Dwarf being the two main players. They work really well in tandem when played right, and that is exactly what this string of missions asks you to do. You need to work all across the battlefield, while considering move times, heal times, reach of that dwarven chain, and so on. Personally I often find the levels with movable units some of the most fun we have. Now have emphasized that, and removed the general riff raff that happens to moving units when there are many ranged Trolls. It should be fun!
addedWe heard here and there we should add more visual variety to the game, so for this patch we are adding a brand new background we call “magical forest”. Since this special mission is focused around the movable Trolls, I know Thor (the game designer) is looking into lore about being lost in the woods in a far away strange forest filled with mushrooms…fighting Vikings looking for gold (ah, some things never change, do they). We have then already drawn up three new backgrounds that we aim to launch over the next few updates, with Magical Forest going first.
addedThere has been a stated wish to add more Trolls and Vikings, and Spells, and we, too, want to do that. We have a list of candidates we have right now, but before making promises we rather want to flesh out some more details before we share. As a teaser we got AD Mikael to draw a new spell suggestion (based on player feedback) where the idea is that this spell can torpedo the holes Vikings are jumping up from. Bunker-Buster, indeed. Not usable for all levels, it could prove truly helpful in both later Valhalla levels and levels with many holes. So a very specific yet highly effective use. Still design to be done on that one, but a fun art piece to share!

There are then also some bugs we have on our list that will be squashed, will update on that as the list goes final.

When it comes to Trolls Reborn ahead, we just had a Megapop strategy day in Stockholm. There we went through our goals and plans until 2035 (so then our dreams, too!). We agreed to keep on supporting Trolls into 2026 with fresh updates, hopefully learning as much as possible on running a game on Steam, and rather take stock next year. In addition to our upcoming city-builder, we agreed to keep on making strategy-type games for Steam (like Trolls is) into the future, so ‘hybdrid TD’ is then the name of the game. More on that…much later.
