Triangle changes
Hard to believe it's been 10 years that Mr. Triangle's Adventure (MTA) has been released to the world! But time sure went by quickly and so many projects came and went since (Surfasaurus, Axe Cop, Takoyaki Surprise, the 10 games in Red Triangle Super Collection) and after all of them I think I'm ready for the next challenge, remaking the first full length RPG that RTG has ever made.
Mr. Triangle's Adventure was designed to be a good representation of what you could do in the OHR.RPG.CE. It's very much a "go have fun with it" kind of engine, and like most hobbies, the better you get at it, the better what you can make! It's a fun tool to showcase direction, artwork, writing and programming. The developers have created a very strong tool-kit that has been a joy to work with for over two decades, but the projects past Axe Cop have strayed from those out-of-the-box type projects.
I believe the name Mr. Triangle's Adventure encompasses that amateur, early-dev type of naming for a project and I see no reason to change it. However, with this bold new re-imagining it's not an early-dev project anymore, so the name Triangle was conceived which sounds sleeker and cleaner, which I think represents the vision for what's to come. Everything is being made custom that needs to be custom to feel as unique as possible. Triangle will run at 60 fps, feature pixel-based movement, a custom battle engine, a re-imagined soundtrack and a tightened up story.
The direction for MTA was very much a "this would be fun, let's do this" type of game and it kind of created a bit of a muddy narrative looking back. I believe Triangle can tell the same story MTA did but in a stronger and more precise way, trimming the fat and making the game leaner. The original had 40+ hours of content, and frankly, a lot of that doesn't hold up, so my goal is to get it down to a 8-10 hour game.
The game is a long way from actively building real content as it's still in the set-up phase. The goal will be to have a working prototype to show off what to expect by the end of the summer. When the game is released eventually, the original MTA will still be preserved and you will still be able to play it like you could before, this will just be a big bonus for anyone who has supported the project in the past. Thank you for that support and for checking out Red Triangle Games' catalog over the years.
