Hello everyone!
In the first part of our dev diary, we'd like to briefly introduce you to the world of our game and share a little bit about its story.
The Story
In the grim world of Alfira, life is fading as it is torn apart by the Bane. A long-standing struggle against demons ended in their banishment, but the goddess Elfira, exhausted from battle, was unable to shield the world from the curse they left behind. Now, the Blight slowly consumes all living things, swallowing entire cities, devastating humans, elves, and orcs, and turning them into monsters. Only a few pockets of life, protected by the Stones of Life, still resist the dark force. However, the threat extends beyond just the curse. A former ally, the mad necromancer Margud, seeks to exploit Elfira's weakness and become the new god. He aims to transform all the living into the undead — beings that know no fear, no pain, and no doubt — to build an army to fight the Bane, which, in his view, the dead are immune to.
But you, the Sentinel, is the last hope for this world. Created by an ancient race to battle the demons, you were awakened in a time of need and became Elfira’s champion. The demons were defeated, but Margud betrayed the goddess and destroyed the Bastion — the Sentinels’ stronghold — turning most of them into his mindless servants, making them his generals. Only a few escaped this fate, sealed in sarcophagi, and now, years later, the goddess has managed to bring you back to life. Starting from scratch, with no memories, you embark on a journey, guided by Elfira's priestess, an orcish merchant, and the Spirit — a Sentinel who has lost his body but retained his memory.
As you regain your strength and combat skills, you will once again become a legendary warrior, wielding melee and ranged weapons, shields, and pistols. Along the way, you’ll collect artifacts infused with the goddess's power and restore the Bastion to stop Margud and free the captive Sentinels. This dying world is beautiful in its own way, and its story will unfold before you with every step you take on the path to salvation.
What’s Next
In the next part of the diary, we'll explain how you can play solo or with friends, discussing the intricacies of cooperative gameplay and character progression. We will publish it before the Steam Scream.
