If you load a save with a lot of progress stored, upon entering headquarters you will be able to experience multiple story bits at once. It's not a bug, if you wish to have a more steadily progress, we recommend starting new game.
addedAnother huge important update is the addition of Gate of Challenges, a new system of gameplay modifiers that you're going to need in order to progress the story. You can, however, adjust them to your current build and play style to make sure your difficulty curve stays within your control.

Another huge important update is the addition of Gate of Challenges, a new system of gameplay modifiers that you're going to need in order to progress the story. You can, however, adjust them to your current build and play style to make sure your difficulty curve stays within your control.
