addedWe tossed around several ideas including cutting content to make the deadline. I and my partner (the coder) don't want to cut things or add stuff in updates later after the game was supposed to be already released.
changedOne of the best things about early access is the connection to the people that like Top Gnome, as it is not the kind of game that a lot of people around us like. Operating in a bubble has been very hard on us, and the chance for feedback from people that really like the game would be a wonderful change, and would help us make it even better.

So, what did we decide?

First, what led to this decision. Its not something that we ideally wanted to do, but its something we feel now that we have to do. We believe in transparency always. We are burnt out, we rushed the demo out under tight time constraints. And we have been taking a break, because working from 9 am to 12am was really taking a toll.

Our internal release date is set for November 20th, and we now don't have the time to put everything we want in the game at the standard we expect from ourselves.

We tossed around several ideas including cutting content to make the deadline. I and my partner (the coder) don't want to cut things or add stuff in updates later after the game was supposed to be already released.

So, we have decided to go early access. For a developer it is a risky move. There are several benefits and drawbacks to doing this.

One of the best things about early access is the connection to the people that like Top Gnome, as it is not the kind of game that a lot of people around us like. Operating in a bubble has been very hard on us, and the chance for feedback from people that really like the game would be a wonderful change, and would help us make it even better.

The downside is that it wont be perfect yet, there will be bugs and some issues, and this could negatively affect us.

We will continue with our regular updates through out the process, and will answer questions both here and on discord.

The game will not be forever in early access! As a gamer myself, I really dislike when developers do that. We do have an end goal, and the game shouldn't be in early access for too long.

We are hoping to keep the same release date however we need to work with Steam first for early access to know for sure. We will keep you updated as things progress.
