Threshold of Awakening changes
Almost everyone has heard of Buddhism. Its practices have infiltrated Western thought in various ways through elements of meditation or tantra. The case is different with the more mysterious variety of this religion - Tibetan Buddhism. Deciding to create a game set mainly “on the roof of the world”, we inevitably had to face researches on this subject.
Spoiler alert: it was not an easy search!
Buddhism spread more widely in Tibet in the 8th century, when the beliefs were recognized as a state religion. However, the various regions of Tibet were highly isolated from each other, so Buddhism developed strongly independently within them, drawing on cultural influences from China, Nepal, Bhutan and Mongolia. Buddhism also intermingled with ancient Bon beliefs and Indian Vajrayana.
The complicated origins and even more difficult terminology meant that we had to make a decision: how religiously literate should our game be? Some simplification proved necessary if we didn't want to inundate players with dozens of names of spirits and deities.
We limited ourselves to certain traditions and divine beings that we used in the game.
What deities do you think we might have in mind?
Are you ready to cross the forbidden threshold to get to know them?
