As the Great Darkness descends upon the province of Quebec, young Thérèse’s world collapses. Following her mother’s death, she is sent to the Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Passion Orphanage, a place governed by brutality, silence, and unquestioned faith, where suffering is routine.
