The Warhorn changes
Dear adventurers! We are pleased to announce that with every update, released in regular timelines, we are adding new mechanics and features to the experimental version of The Warhorn, that is running on Unreal Engine 5. In the last few updates there have been multiple features added to The Warhorn. Remember that this is just the beginning, as our roadmap contains many more changes that you will see in the nearest future. As in the last update we have added the mechanic of first mini game – Capture The Flag - we will organize several events that will be using it, testing also other network features, strictly connected with multiplayer mechanisms.
How we stopped worrying and learned to love the sticks
In Unreal Engine 5 player gear progression will have more layers than in UE4 (default version) Warhorn - as you can see, in one of the first updates we have introduced tier 0 or so-called ‘caveman gear’.
Stone & stick tools are easy to make, cheap and don’t break too easily, but damage-wise they will be the worst choice of weapons in the game. As a result, every tool after this first step will be much sturdier. After crafting your first set of tools you should look for some metals. And speaking of metals...
The Copper Age
Copper tools and weapons will be the foundation of early game gathering and combat. Also, you will not be forced to settle down before crafting your first set of tools.
No, you wouldn't be able to smelt every ore in the game without settling down, but there will be no need to sacrifice too much if you want to explore and find your perfect spot. You will be able to craft copper tools, go to a good place to build a base and start gathering resources.
Introducing…pig
In the last published roadmap we have promised that deer will be the first introduced animal, but due to the need of redesigning some aspects of The Warhorn’s hunting mechanics and ranged combat we finally decided that you will see pigs at a much earlier stage.
As you remember, in UE4 pigs were one of basic huntable animals and this will not change in the new version of the game, but hunting will be much easier and more immersive. Yeah, this chonker will be easy to catch but getting better animal based materials will require a more serious hunting..
Early map expansion and building mechanics
In the default version of The Warhorn you will soon see large chunks added to the map at the north-west and south-east. We are preparing building spaces and realizing the first phase of expansion of the green biome. Before implementation of the next biome we want to polish, expand and refine the main highland area. Previous map from UE4 version had one, most important problem - it was big enough, but a large part of features was stretched around various corners and hard to reach.
In the experimental (UE5) version, the map will be open for exploration like in default Warhorn (UE4) but in new version we have a new philosophy - ‘quality over quantity’. There will be no filler plains, never-ending roads or other features typical for too large open worlds.
Social Media growth and diversification
We are also happy to announce that our community is constantly growing – our social medias are now more active, so if you want to see new materials created actually in The Warhorn, so as be up to date with news (not only about updates, but also events, sales and giveways), there are more ways to achieve it. As The Warhorn had it official channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, we have started adding regular videos on our Tiktok and created our official subreddit. You can also join our Discord, where you can ask our dev team directly about in-game features. All social medias channels are being fulfilled with materials and discussions about the game – check and join r/TheWarhornGame
